Sumario:The main objective of this research work is to explain the positive relationship that the development of reading competence has in the ability to classify texts in students of the third grade of primary education of the Educational Institution Nº5176 "María Reiche Grosse". The research is of the Causal Correlational type, with a post-test design with a non-random control group, the universe or population being 100 students in the third grade of primary school, and the sample is the 32 students that make up the third grade C classroom. As an instrument, the questionnaire was used, which groups a series of questions oriented to a particular topic of analysis of five types of texts (descriptive, informative, poetic, argumentative and instructive), in their relationship with three levels of reading comprehension (literal, inferential and criterion). The descriptive analysis technique was used based on the recognition and interpretation of the results obtained on the basis of statistical results to evaluate the relationship between reading competence and the ability to classify texts, from the three levels of pedagogical evaluation ( started, in process and achieved). In the results, it was possible to verify the significant relationship between the application of reading comprehension strategies and the development of the ability to classify texts in the students of the third grade of primary school.
