Mexico is in the grips of a public health crisis related to its changing food system, characterized by dramatic increases in diet-related illness. Ideas about how to reverse these trends stretch from top-down nutrition education to demands for regulation of the food and beverage industry. Taking a different approach, this paper focuses on the perspectives and practices of rural Oaxacans, drawn from qualitative research conducted in seven communities over six years. We find an emergent critique of the contemporary capitalist food system rooted in embodied engagements with food production, preparation, consumption, and community history. We analyze these findings through the lens of Gramsci’s concept of ‘good sense,’ understood as the critical-thinking basis for revolutionary transformation among subaltern classes. We situate this idea within literature on embodied knowledge and visc...

Before beginning the analysis of the role of intellectuals and their relationship with the State, we consider it pertinent to make some clarifications referred, above all, to the different definitions used to conceptualize the work of the intellectual. In this sense, it is possible to identify some interpretations that oppose intellectual work to manual work, and others that restrict it only to great thinkers, considered by the universality of their ideas the only and true intellectuals.

Risk mitigation in global supply chains has grown in importance in recent years, in tandem with globalization and both the commercial and security threats faced by firms both large and small. This study hypothesizes that a firm’s ability to manage risk strategy— and therefore support its competitiveness—is determined by a symbiotic triad of factors: the resources it utilizes; network systems; and performance criteria it employs. The study, comprising 24 in-depth interviews with electronics and IT firms, examines resource utilization through the Resource-Based View (RBV), assesses firms’ proclivity to engage in networks for risk mitigation and competitiveness; and highlights the importance of performance evaluation as a critically important component in supply chain management. Findings reveal that both buyers and suppliers believe that the symbiotic triad can provide them with a ...

The expired patent pharmaceutical market has an interesting behavior with respect to its market structure, changing from a monopolistic case derived from patent protection to an oligopoly, where the company that had such protection (pioneer) holds the dominant role through a Stackelberg behavior, which applies strategies of product differentiation in a segmented market, which is not very sensitive to change in prices and which retains a non-negligible share. In this sense, other companies that manufacture generics with a commercial brand, penetrate the market with a similar strategy with differentiated products and lower prices. This is due to the prestige and competitive positioning of the product with recent expiration. Consequently, little differentiated products are offered that compete for economic prices, which obtain a considerable market penetration in a price-sensitive se...

No obsta...

The article maintains that intercultural education emancipates indigenous peoples and contributes to the construction of a dialogical democracy. In addition, he points out that the school plays an important role, since it promotes respect for the Other, fosters more horizontal knowledge and learning among students and teachers. But it also indicates that the lack of budget, the bureaucracy, the discrimination and the rejection of non-western culture impede the construction of a new school. That said, the purpose of this work is to analyze the current situation of indigenous peoples and education in the state of Guerrero. The discussion on this topic allows educational actors and society to reconsider the fact that intercultural dialogue reinforces the sense of belonging and identity of those communities such as the Amuzgos, Mixtecos, Nahuas and Tlapanecos, who have been marginalized. dur...

Modern society is increasingly aware that innovation and entrepreneurship play a transcendental role in achieving a sustainable economy that ensures the social well-being and employability of young people, hence the importance of promoting them through the university curriculum. For this reason, it is of great interest to determine the impact that universities and their educational models are having on entrepreneur training, since they may not be addressing the necessary skills. In this sense, the current study sought to characterize the entrepreneurial training of academic programs in the humanities at higher education institutions in Mexico that are members of the National Network of Schools and Faculties of Philosophy, Letters, and Humanities, as well as the necessary competencies for graduates to engage in entrepreneurial activity. For the methodological design, we used a descriptive...

The media in Mexico have played a fundamental role in the social construction of the migratory reality and, in this regard, it was suggested that, on the issue of migrant caravans, some of them have performed thorough and rigorous coverage as a result of journalistic research, while others have not. The focus of this work is mixed and its scope is descriptive. Ten media outlets were analyzed, specifically 1,048 journalistic texts on the issue of migrant caravans, from October 2018 to February 2019. Investigations about the fortifications of northern New Spain are scarce. Besides, even though there are isolated writings on some types of fortification, no studies have been carried out that comprehensively track each fortified enclosure. The Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, the reason for this article, has left us an immense testimony of various historical processes forged in it. This testimony translates into a range of patrimonial assets that were built individually and collectively over the course of three centuries. Its transformation gives an account of the inherited knowledge of techniques or constructive models, and of the occupation strategies, which impress on it a sense of permanence in time.
