This study presents the design exploration and kinematic validation of a transtibial prosthesis based on a 2SPU-RU parallel mechanism. The prototype is currently at Technology Readiness Level 3 (TRL 3), indicating an early-stage concept that has been evaluated under controlled conditions. The mechanism replicates dorsiflexion–plantarflexion, inversion–eversion, and abduction–adduction, corresponding to ankle motion in the sagittal, frontal, and transverse anatomic planes. The system integrates electric actuators and an ESP32 DevKit V1 microcontroller to control joint movements. Functional tests were conducted to assess kinematic performance using inertial sensors and video tracking. Additional evaluations included force distribution analysis using pressure insoles during dorsiflexion and plantarflexion, as well as energy consumption measurements across gait cycles. While the protot...

Recurrent flooding in the mining works, deficiencies in the operation of pumps, unforeseen stoppages, and lack of water availability in the processes, affect the operations in the subway mine. The traditional solution adopted is to wait for maintenance times for its post evacuation, generating stoppages, consumption of water from the wells and inefficiency in the daily water demand. Therefore, this article presents a new approach that will expand the traditional methods by introducing a prediction model using probabilistic methods. This approach will allow the design of an optimal water distribution system, the efficient control in the maintenance and covering of the recirculated water demand inside the mine. Variables describing problems related to pump flow, pressure zoning and the type of pump distribution, either in series or in parallel in the pumping system, will be determined. Als...

One of the factors that determine the productivity inside a company is the state of the machinery with which is counted for the production. Our objective was to design a system that allows the engineers to supervise and to evaluate the state of the machinery, so that this in sot only repaired when it doesn't work, but rather one has the possibility to take a periodic registration of the operation of the same one. With it, it'll be possible to identify the flaws of the machinery in their diverse evolutionary phases. This will allow to carry out an appropriate correction of the problem diminishing the maintenance cost and, therefore, to stop the machinery for a smaller period of time. The system that we have designed in compound for a card of acquisition that will allow to capture and to transfer the mechanical vibrations of the machinery toward analysis software that allows the engineers ...

The north of Peru is characterized by the presence of world-class porphyry (Cu-Au and Cu-Mo) and epithermal (Au) deposits, located on the west of central Andes, northern Peru. These mines and mineralized deposits are present in a temporal-structural associated with Neogene magmatism with ages from 24 Ma to 7 Ma, intruding silica-clastic rocks from the upper Cretaceous, which, due to the effects of tectonic deformations, particularly in the Cenozoic (Incaica and Quechua phases), led to the occurrence of mega controls Structural problems such as the one proposed in the following publication and hopes to open a window of debate in its environment. Structurally, the deposits in the north of Peru are controlled by mega structural systems that contain the Punre - Canchis fault (Rivera et al., 2008) in the eastern sector as the main structural accident, as well as the system of folds and faults...

This paper analyses the issues in attempting to replicate the Californian Innovation System (IS) in Latin American contexts. We try to establish the parallels for Latin American countries by identifying the fundamental elements and feedback loops that were necessary to the emergence of Silicon Valley and their strengths in the technology and software industry. We compare three scenarios through analysing their technological change trajectories: Silicon Valley, Colombia and Brazil. Using theoretical frameworks relevant for innovation studies such as path dependence on technical change trajectories, accumulation of technological capabilities, national and regional IS, Pavitt’s taxonomy, and supply-chain trade; we explain why Latin American countries and policymakers should not try to pursue the same path as Silicon Valley trying to catch-up in the technology and software industries. Through a systematic review of peer-reviewed and grey literature, this paper analyzes evidence of the livelihood impacts of Payments for Environmental Services (PES). Forty-six studies assessed PES livelihood impacts. The assessments presented more positive livelihood impacts than negative ones, focusing on financial benefits. Non-monetary and non-material impacts of PES were largely understudied. Most reviews focused on ES providers, hindering the understanding of broader societal impacts. The review yielded examples where participants lost from their participation or where improvements in one livelihood dimension paralleled deterioration in another. Consequently, we identified key research gaps in: i) understanding the social and cultural impacts of PES, ii) evaluating environmental and economic additionality from improving other ES at the expense of cultural ones, iii) and assessing P...

The educational theory of learning styles seeks to develop meaningful learning in students, to achieve adequate professional skills, being a relevant pedagogical vision in the current educational field. On the other hand, current research is rediscovering the Inca worldview, and allowing the theorizing of a good learning system called in Quechua allinta, based on a code of evaluative principles that allowed training specialists in various fields of knowledge, known as kamayoq. This study allows us to analyze the possible parallelism of current learning styles with the ancient educational worldview of the Incas, because despite referring to different educational contexts, they allowed the achievement of the technical abilities of the Inca kamayoq, similar to the skills of the current professional.

The Ecuadorian Amazon region is permanently subject to deforestation processes and in parallel to the implementation of agricultural, and livestock management systems that can affect soil quality. This study assessed the effect of different land use types on soil quality using the Integrated Soil Quality Index (SQI) and minimum indicators. To do this, it considers representative soil samples, 4 types of land use, and a productive landscape in the province of Pastaza. The land use types evaluated were sugarcane (SC), agrosilvopastoral System (ASPS) silvopastoral timber system (SSTT), and secondary forest (SF). Land use type had significant effects on some soil properties and, therefore, on soil quality. The soil quality index was developed using BD, Ca+Mg/K, and SOM which had the highest weighting values, suggesting a higher contribution to the final SQI. The Soil...

This paper presents the first published report of a national-level effort to implement the integrated management of childhood illness (IMCI) strategy at scale. IMCI was introduced in Peru in late 1996, the early implementation phase started in 1997, with the expansion phase starting in 1998. Here we report on a retrospective evaluation designed to describe and analyze the process of taking IMCI to scale in Peru, conducted as one of five studies within the multicountry evaluation of IMCI effectiveness, cost and impact (MCE) coordinated by the World Health Organization. Trained surveyors visited each of Peru’s 34 districts, interviewed district health staff and reviewed district records. Findings show that IMCI was not institutionalized in Peru; it was implemented parallel to existing programmes to address acute respiratory infections and diarrhoea, sharing budget lines and management st...
