This article describes the first step in a Teaching Innovation Project in Universidad de Santiago de Chile, which includes the project’s design and the methodological aspects required for its implementation and evaluation. Experts from different academic units will give students real translation assignments (specified in a translation brief) and will consult with them so as to contribute to the development of their thematic translation competence. This project will be implemented in the Specialized Social Science English-Spanish Translation course (4th year) of the Bachelor of Linguistics Applied to Translation degree program during the September 2017 semester. The proposal is based on contributions from Kiraly (2000) stating that the most effective way for students to develop professional competences is by offering them opportunities to interact with their classmates and with experts....

The design of new methodological perspectives that combine different translation theories with the practice of translation is a difficult task in the area of translation didactics. The need to include changes in the teaching of specialized translation represents a challenge for teachers of Technical Translation of the English Public Translation graduate program at the School of Languages of Universidad Nacional del Comahue (Argentina). The methodological perspective applied to the translation of technical texts brings together different didactic strategies so as to modify the traditional methodology. This work aims at describing activities, focused on collaborative work and project-based learning, that students of Technical Translation carry out in order to foster autonomy in their own learning process with the teacher´s role as a facilitator of the process. It is believed that the appl...

Introduction: This paper presents the results of an educational experience within the framework of POSEDITrad, an educational innovation project that incorporates the use of machine translation and postediting in the translation classroom within the Degree of Translation and Interlinguistic Mediation at the University of Valencia (Spain). Theoretical framework: Technology and machine translation are envisaged as helpful tools that can enhance both the translation process and the students’ translation competence. Procedure: This curricular innovation includes the design and implementation of a series of activities that provide students with the necessary tools, techniques and procedures in machine translation and post-editing to fulfil translation market demands and foster students’ technological competence. Discussion: The benefits of this teaching innovation are associated wi...

This teaching experience was designed for and implemented in a university module on legal translator training in the German (as second foreign language or C language) - Spanish (first language or A language) language pair. It describes the applications of a simulated yet realistic project, whereby students were asked to translate a German court summons into Spanish. Following the main theories on textual genre (Borja, 2013; Orts, 2017), as applied to the pre-translation analysis of the communicative situation in legal translation (Prieto, 2013), trainee translators are able to develop their legal translation competence and to establish a decision-making framework (Way, 2014) that allows them to justify their solutions to the translation problems identified. Accordingly, they can continue their specialization in the translation of legal texts from German into Spanish with greater autonomy...

Since the nineties, the inclusion of technological components in the training of translators has been a need identified by translation professionals and academics. In this context, a cross-sectional exploratory study was proposed, aimed at looking into the inclusion of translation-applied computer sciences in the translation programs offered at public universities in Argentina, both in specific technology courses and in other curricular and extracurricular areas. Based on the information contained in documentary sources collected by the research project “Training in Translation and Interpretation in Argentina” (04/J025, UNComahue), and on the answers to questionnaires administered to the directors of the 18 study programs included, this article presents some preliminary conclusions: a minority of the study programs being researched contain a mandatory course on translation-applied co...

This research was carried out because of the communication barriers that currently exist between hearing impaired and hearing people. These barriers hinder their integration into society and affect their interpersonal relationships. The objective of the study was to propose the development of a stationary assistive robot capable of displaying sign language interpretation through the combination of data gloves and the D- CNN and LSTM algorithm to facilitate the communication of hearing-impaired children in Huancayo. The triple diamond research design was used, where the mind map and the lotus diagram were used for the delimitation and definition of the problem. In addition, the IDEF0 technique was used to obtain a structured design of the project system. A morphological matrix was also used to choose the best solution for the problem. The chosen design contemplates the use of an Arduino U...

As of the publication of the Law on Indigenous Languages (Law 29735), the use of native languages in any public and private space has become more relevant in Peru. The proof of this are television projects that include languages other than Spanish; even the creators of this content demonstrate a position in favor of the diffusion of the native languages and their culture. The objective of this article is to analyze the translation work performed by the interpreters of the micronoticist Letras TV Willakun to evaluate it as a case of language activism in favor of theQuechua language and culture. The work concludes that, after interviewing the interpreters and part of the program’s audience, this is a case of important developing activism in the university environment, despite its difficulties in the translation process.

Foreign language teaching and learning has received a considerable amount of scholarly attention across different stages of education, particularly in the case of English. Apart from language training in general contexts, language for special purposes also constitutes a prolific field of study. However, less research has been conducted on the foreign-language training needs of trainee translators and interpreters and the corresponding teaching methodologies. In order to gain insight into actual teaching practices in this area in Spanish universities, we have studied the methodological approaches used in the classroom by 58 foreign language lecturers at 13 Translation and Interpreting Faculties in Spain, through a research project of Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain). Information was compiled from the responses to an ad hoc questionnaire created for this purpose, sent out...

The development of integrative projects in professional training aims to integrate formative research with social responsibility actions, to contribute to the improvement of the quality of professional training, in which research as a process of exploration and discovery of new knowledge, contributes to the technological development that generates technologies, processes or products, resulting in technological innovation, which allows the transfer of technology for its use for the benefit of society. This report uses an action research methodology aimed at verifying in practice the solution of the problem of learning to investigate from intervening in the solution of the problems of the context. The result reflects that students enhance their investigative abilities by improving their observation, detection, analysis and use of information to translate it into scientific communications a...

The purpose of this study was to translate the Bedtime Procrastination Scale (BPS) into Spanish and to evaluate its psychometric properties. A sample of 419 students from three Peruvian universities participated in the study. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to evaluate the original model of the scale, which initially showed poor fit indices. Improved fit indices were obtained after removing reverse-scored item, χ²(5) = 9.240, CFI = .998, RMSEA = .045, TLI = .997, and SRMR = .013. The internal consistency of the scale, examined using the omega coefficient, was found to be satisfactory (ω = .86). Moreover, measurement invariance analysis supported gender invariance, indicating that the scale functions equivalently across male and female participants. Additionally, convergent validity was assessed by examining the correlations between the BPS and insomnia, as measured by the A...
