This research is framed within the area of translation and interpreting studies and more specifically within the field of translation didactics. The general research objective of this study is to observe and analyze the repercussions of Translation undergraduate courses at five different universities in Spain. With empirical methods combining quantitative and qualitative analysis relying on a macro-study of more than 1,000 subjects and a longitudinal study of 37 students, the research focuses specifically on the development of the strategic competence (SC) and, particularly, the student’s capacity to identify and describe translation problems. This paper aims to demonstrate the influence of an intervention program for the development of critical thinking on the acquisition of strategic competence of translation students in a university in Lima. For this purpose, a quasi-experimental research with pre-test and post-test design with control and experimental groups was carried out. The object of study was an intervention program for the development of critical thinking applied to the experimental group. The findings showed that the activities designed for the development of critical thinking significantly influenced strategic competence, which was measured through the student’s ability to analyze problems, evaluate translations and assess their own translations.

This teaching experience was designed for and implemented in a university module on legal translator training in the German (as second foreign language or C language) - Spanish (first language or A language) language pair. It describes the applications of a simulated yet realistic project, whereby students were asked to translate a German court summons into Spanish. Following the main theories on textual genre (Borja, 2013; Orts, 2017), as applied to the pre-translation analysis of the communicative situation in legal translation (Prieto, 2013), trainee translators are able to develop their legal translation competence and to establish a decision-making framework (Way, 2014) that allows them to justify their solutions to the translation problems identified. The purpose of this article is to examine the importance of the profession of translators and interpreters in the international dissemination of Peruvian literature. Likewise, it seeks to make known the invaluable service that these professionals have offered over the years. To this end, we will analyze the tradition «El latín de una limeña», by Ricardo Palma. In order to show the great work done by those versed in languages, in the same way, we will study the main translated works of the Bibliotecario Mendigo, César Vallejo and Mario Vargas Llosa. In fact, the works of these literary figures have reached foreign lands and have been translated into several languages. Finally, we will reflect on the most frequent problems that translators have in their professional work, as well as their current relationship with technology.

The purpose of this study was to translate the Bedtime Procrastination Scale (BPS) into Spanish and to evaluate its psychometric properties. A sample of 419 students from three Peruvian universities participated in the study. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to evaluate the original model of the scale, which initially showed poor fit indices. Improved fit indices were obtained after removing reverse-scored item, χ²(5) = 9.240, CFI = .998, RMSEA = .045, TLI = .997, and SRMR = .013. The internal consistency of the scale, examined using the omega coefficient, was found to be satisfactory (ω = .86). Moreover, measurement invariance analysis supported gender invariance, indicating that the scale functions equivalently across male and female participants. Esta investigação analisa os problemas de tradução de nomes próprios em dois textos franceses de literatura infantil: Jefferson e La Fée Électricité. O objectivo é apresentar propostas para a tradução para espanhol de nomes próprios referentes a personagens históricos e fictícios baseados nas estratégias e técnicas de Mayoral e Muñoz (1997) e Hurtado (2001). Para este efeito, analisa-se o estado da arte da literatura infantil e dos recursos retóricos; posteriormente, explica-se o conceito de nomes próprios e descrevem-se os estudos de caso, as estratégias e técnicas adoptadas para cada um deles, bem como as soluções propostas para os exemplos extraídos. A partir disto, a investigação conclui que os nomes próprios constituem um verdadeiro problema de tradução para o qual foram propostas diferentes soluções de acordo com a sua natureza.

The translation of dialects is one of the most difficult challenges in literary translation, because the translator faces a text that must be adapted to the culture of the target language, so that the translation could be understood by the target language’s community. One of the options for facing a dialectally marked text is to use an existing-dialect with similar connotations. Another option is to translate to a standard language.
