Introduction. The combined first-trimester screening test is the international recommendation for prenatal screening of trisomy 21. The combined plus screening test adds one or more ultrasound markers (ductus venosus, tricuspid flow, nasal bone). The contingent test is a two-step protocol of risk assessment that considers all markers only as a contingency in the group with an inconclusive result. Objective: Assessment of the performance of the Kagan biochemical contingent protocol in our population. Methods. All pregnant women between 11 and 13 weeks attended in our unit were assessed with the first-trimester combined plus screening test. We followed the Fetal Medicine Foundation published quality criteria and the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology guidelines. Results 2 578 single pregnancies were assessed; the foetuses were classified by an initial ultraso...

ABSTRACT Introduction: We are currently experiencing the diabetes pandemic, in 2017 the "International Diabetes Federation" reported that 425 million adults have diabetes. Within the prevention and screening we have FINDRISC (Finnish Diabetes Risk Score), a test that is being widely used, so we must review the available evidence, if it has sufficient predictive capacity to be recommended and used, if there is personalization according to sociodemographic patterns, and if it has relationships. Methods: In this systematic review article, the information was compiled from PubMed, Elsevier library, ScienceDirect, BMJ Journals and “Revista de la facultad de Medicina Humana de la URP. Results: Of 30 articles found, 23 were selected: 12 were analytical, 7 descriptive, 2 cases and control, 2 clinical trials. Conclusion: The average AUC is 77.81%, so it has sufficient positive predictive capaci...

There is much expectation on the introduction of prophylactic vaccines against human papilloma virus specifically against 16 and 18 oncogenic type, as theoretically would permit to prevent approximatelly 70% of uterine cervical cancer in the world. The vaccine has been approved in some countries and there is the intention to introduce it in the national programs of immunizations. For example, some states of the United States of North America are considering vaccination obligatory in girls in school age. The objective of this chapter is to determine the effect vaccination would have in uterine cervical cancer screening. For such we need to review the natural history of HPV infection by cervical neoplasia.

Securing access to quality healthcare services, particularly for essential screening tests like mammograms, presents a significant challenge in developing nations. Women often encounter extensive waiting periods, sometimes extending for several months, to undergo a mammogram. This crucial test plays a pivotal role in the early detection of breast cancer, where timely diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment and enhanced survival prospects. Delays in obtaining a diagnosis can significantly impact the health of patients and their well-being, underscoring the importance of early detection. Compounding these challenges is the scarcity of resources and healthcare professionals, which hinders swift and efficient access to preventive care. Such constraints underscore the pressing need for improvements in the interpretation of radiological studies and a reduction in the workload of imaging s...

Breast cancer is the second most frequent malignant neoplasm in the world and the fifth cause of death from cancer in women. In Peru, breast cancer is second in incidence and the third cause of death from cancer in women. Mammography screening began in 1960 with the goal of detecting cancer at its smallest size before clinically evident in order to have better prognosis and survival. Several trials have been done since to determine mammography importance as a screening method and to establish age to begin, frequency and when to stop screening. In this article the role of mammography as screening tool is reviewed, as well as controversies on use, side effects, and recommendations on its use in Peru.

Congenital sensorineural hearing loss is one of the most frequent pathologies of the newborn. To carry out the diagnosis and early detection of this pathology in the pediatric population, specialized audiological tests are required, such as otoacoustic emissions and auditory evoked potentials. Therefore, it is important to have a guide to identify and detect those patients with suspected congenital sensorineural hearing loss.

Currently, ovarian reserve (OR) tests are mainly used in the evaluation of subfertile patients. In this paper, we discuss the use of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels, which have been associated in some cases with antral follicle count (AFC) and FSH levels in young women, and we propose an algorithm to identify the risk of reduced ovarian reserve. Using her full autonomy and after counseling, the woman would decide whether or not to do the tests, according to her priorities in life. If these tests were altered, the woman could modify her plans in regard to motherhood.
