Cross-sectional study that determined the frequency and the genotypes of the (HR-HPV) high-risk human papillomavirus through the self-collection technique in a group of college students of Lima. Two hundred twenty-one (221) students participated and the DNA of the HR-HPV was detected with polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The frequency of HR-HPV in participants was 43.4%; of this group, genotype HPV 16 was present in 15.6%, HPV 18 in 4.2%, and another HR-HPV in 80.2%. We can conclude that the frequency of HR-HPV is greater in the group of college students of this study in comparison with previous national investigations.

Breast cancer is the second most frequent malignant neoplasm in the world and the fifth cause of death from cancer in women. In Peru, breast cancer is second in incidence and the third cause of death from cancer in women. Mammography screening began in 1960 with the goal of detecting cancer at its smallest size before clinically evident in order to have better prognosis and survival. Several trials have been done since to determine mammography importance as a screening method and to establish age to begin, frequency and when to stop screening. In this article the role of mammography as screening tool is reviewed, as well as controversies on use, side effects, and recommendations on its use in Peru.

Objective: The objective of the study was to determine if fine-needle aspiration biopsy is a safe method to diagnose breast cancer in women with a palpable breast tumor. Materials and methods: A prospective, analytical and cross-sectional study on cancer prevention conducted in 105 women with a palpable breast tumor who went to the Department of Cancer Prevention and Diagnosis of the Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Neoplásicas (INEN) from July 1, 2014 to April 30, 2015. The study sample was selected through non-probabilistic sampling, and based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: The average age was significantly higher in the group with a malignant pathological result (51.21 years).
