This thesis proposes a novel approach for a nonlinear adaptive observer design applied to a reverse osmosis desalination plant. The considered mathematical model of the de- salination system includes nonlinearities of the states and the parameters that cannot be handled with previously published estimation methods which are based on the mod- ulating function technique. Therefore, the proposed real-time capable approach uses a decoupled parameter estimator and state observer. These estimates can be utilized for developing a controller or a fault detection system of the desalination plant with the aim of improving the quality and effort of fresh water production. The parameter estimator is composed of a convolution filter with modulating func- tions and the common Extended Kalman-Bucy Filter in order to estimate nonlinear parameters of a state-linear input/output relation. This paper develops a mathematical model to simulate dynamically a reverse osmosis system. The model is formed from materials balances macroscopic unsteady state combined with the model membrane transport: diffusion-solution. In this first part, we solve the system of differential equations assuming a completely mixed flow pattern in the reverse osmosis module (module polarization = 1). The system of equations is solved simultaneously by the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg method. The results indicate that increasing the area of membrane or pressure increases the volume of recovered product and increasing the initial concentration in the feed reduces the permeate flow severely.

This study examines causation between the current account and the fiscal surplus and fiscal spending for a commodity-based economy, Peru. Using quarterly data for the open economy, the outcomes reject the twin deficits hypothesis. Instead, the evidence points strongly to reverse causality, that is, the current account causes the fiscal account. However, unlike previous empirical evidence on this subject, for a year, the reverse causality indicates a negative causation because the fiscal consumption is not smoothed when positive permanent shocks to the current account occur. In the short run, the fiscal policy has no effect on the current account, but improvements in the current account increase the probability of attaining a lower bounded fiscal deficit. This evidence is consistent with a small open commodity-based economy that is highly exposed and sensitive to external price shocks.

Introduction. Chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the main cause of death in Ecuador and the world, and within them diabetes mellitus is one of the fastest growing morbidity and mortality. Objective. To determine if there are differences between the clinical characteristics before and after a diabetes reversal program in Ecuador. Methods. Comparative study before and after in the same individual. Patients who voluntarily entered an outpatient clinical program based on Lifestyle Medicine were followed for 8 weeks, measures were taken at the beginning and at the end of this period, which included plant-based nutrition, physical exercise and psychological support. Twin reversed arterial perfusion sequence is a complication of monochorionic twin pregnancies in which one twin that exhibits lethal anomalies, including acardia, is perfused by the other ‘pump’ twin via anastomoses between placental arteries. This results in growth and characteristic anomalies of the acardiac twin, and possible heart failure of the pump twin. The exact pathophysiological mechanisms that lead to this devastating phenomenon are not well known. It occurs in about 1% of monochorionic pregnancies and in one out of 35 000 pregnancies. Se cruzaron parentales blanco acromeliano y gris oscuro, obteniéndose en la F, animales con pelaje tipo agutí y en la F, se obtuvo cuatro mutantes para el color del pelaje. Se discute la importancia de la serie C, y no se descaRta la existencia de una interacción epistática entre el pelaje gris y el blanco acromeliano.

In the present investigation, the reverse flotation method was used to recover hematite in Huancavelica, supported by optical microscopy of arepresentative sample of the mineral, which identified hematite with a distribution of 29.07%, pyrite was observed occupying a volume of 50%,electrum, goethite and gangues in a lesser distribution.Chemical tests determined a head grade of 22.07% hematite and 20.11% total sulfur. Sports initiation takes place at a crossroads of sports, pedagogical and psychological interests. The monitoring of school sports requires the construction of a training discipline that underlines the promoted values in which the school-age child is formed. This study is interested in understanding the coordinates in which discipline is established in football, because it is one of the most important school sports, and the implications it has for the young athlete. A participant observation research design is used, in which 10 under 8 football teams participate during two school courses.
