State-of-the-art control and robotics challenges have long been tackled using model-based control methods like model predictive control (MPC) and reinforcement learning (RL). These methods excel in complex dynamic domains, such as manipulation tasks, but struggle with real-world issues like wear-and-tear, uncalibrated sensors, and misspecifications. These factors often perturb system dynamics, leading to the 'reality gap' problem when robots transition from simulations to real-world environments. This work aims to bridge this gap by combining RL and control in a learning framework that adapts MPC to robot decisions, optimizing performance despite uncertainties in dynamics model parameters. This thesis presents three key contributions to robotics control. The first is a novel reward-based framework for refining stochastic Model Predictive Control (MPC). It utilizes Bayesian Optimization (...

The predictive control (MPC) is an advanced control strategy widely used in industrial processes. MPC is also one of the most active areas of research in the theory of control. Subjects such as optimality, stability and robustness are well known, especially for linear systems. However, despite this large adoption, both in the media industry and academics, little has been written about how these drivers are implemented in practice. This article tries to fill this gap, introducing the development of systems optimization and MPC, and discussing their integration into a hierarchical control structure. The proposed integrated control scheme is applied to the Tennessee Eastman plant, and the results show the effectiveness of the proposed strategy for optimal control of processes.

Introduction. Neonatal hypoglycemia is the most common and early metabolic disorder of the newborn, which can cause everything from transient irritability to states of seizure, apnea and death. The objective was to determine the risk factors associated with hypoglycemia in term newborns in a public hospital in northern Peru by creating a predictive model using logistic regression. Material and methods: The study presented a 1:1 paired case-control design, with a sample of 58 cases and 58 controls, based on the presence or absence of neonatal hypoglycemia. Maternal and neonatal variables were analyzed: gestational age, weight of the newborn, sex of the newborn, type of delivery, use of steroids, induction of labor, being the child of a diabetic mother, intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), mother with pre-birth hydroelectrolytic disorder, meconium aspiration syndrome, and perinatal stre...

This work presents the behavior of Model-Based Predictive Control (MBPC), aimed at controlling a SISO process. The process is a non-linear system, to which after linearizing and discretizing, predictive control techniques are applied. The nonlinear process (plant) consists of a DC servomotor with reduction, a power stage and a rod coupled to the motor rotor. Use is made of a LAB-PC+ interface card (implemented in a Pentium microcomputer) and an auxiliary interface. The software used for the simulation is MATLAB and the one used for the implementation of the position control algorithm is the C language. The results presented are in real time. For reasons of space Simulations have not been presented in this article.

The aim of this Master's Thesis was to develop a naturally controllable BCI that can predict motion trajectories from the imagination of motor execution. The approach to reach this aim was to nd a correlation between movement and brain data, which can subsequently be used for the prediction of movement trajectories only by brain signals. To nd this correlation, an experiment was carried out, in which a participant had to do triggered movements with its right arm to four di erent targets. During the execution of the movements, the kinematic and EEG data of the participant were recorded. After a preprocessing stage, the velocity of the kinematic data in x and y directions, and the band power of the EEG data in di erent frequency ranges were calculated and used as features for the calculation of the correlation by a multiple linear regression. When applying the resulting regression paramete...

Since the efficacy of phototherapy has been demonstrated, it has become the main method for the prevention and treatmentof hyperbilirubinemia in the neonate with neonatal jaundice. Therefore, the objective of this project is to decrease the abnormallevel of bilirubin in the blood with innovation tools and to place it at low risk levels. For this, the proposed design consists ofa blue light source, which offers a uniform light distribution throughout the neonate’s surface; A control system that ensuresthe level of constant irradiance throughout the treatment, a noninvasive predictive method to determine the level of bilirubinin the neonate and a programmable interface that allows to suggest the most effective type of treatment. Electrical hazardsaccording to IEC 60601-1 standard for medical equipment are included.

The pregnancy in the bitch occurs between fertilization and whelping, and its length has clinical importance. The complex biology of the gametes and embryos influences the length of the gestation, where the physiological period fluctuates from 57 to 70 days. This wide range can be influenced by the referential methods used to estimate the starting day. Controlled natural mating or artificial insemination based on the detection of ovulation allows reducing the range from 62 to 64 days. A high impact obstetric condition is the gestation of only one puppy, which tends to be longer, representing high risk of dystocia. Given the clinical relevance of a suitable projection of the length of the gestation and the prediction of the whelping date, mathematical formulas to calculate the fetal age and the whelping day have been developed with the systematization of gestational ultrasound.

Meta-analyses show that the correlations of approaches to learning with academic achievement are low. However, only one study has controlled these correlations in the presence of intelligence. Our study investigates the incremental validity of the surface and deep approaches taking cognitive abilities as control and applied the multiple linear regression and CART regression tree method in a diversified sample of high school students from Minas Gerais, Brazil. We found a prediction of 20.37% and 35.20% of the outcome variance, through the linear regression and CART, respectively. Our results show that although cognitive abilities are more important than students’ approaches, the approaches have incremental validity and important roles as predictors of academic achievement.
