Oral health problems influence the general condition of people. The clinical diagnosis of oral disease can give an idea of the etiology and prognosis, but this not directly reflects the level of disturbance. For some people oral diseases indicate a risk factor but are not for life, not severe enough to disable their abilities, but their consequences can impact daily life at different degrees and cause disability altering the perception of psychosocial development. Several authors mention oral signs as risk factor for systemic diseases. Pathologies of root canal considered as a place of outbreak of systemic actinomycosis. Chronic ulceration of the hard palate where the sign of undiagnosed pulmonary tuberculosis is presented is also described; likewise secondary syphilis is initially diagnosed by oral lesions. Other authors argue that primary Ewing sarcoma of bone surrounds the head and ne...

The aim of this study was to determine the possible relationship between the presence of lesions called “White Spotted Kidney” (WSK) and the seroprevalence of Leptospira spp in cattle slaughtered in the Manta slaughterhouse, Manabí province, Ecuador. Blood samples were taken from 320 cattle to detect antibodies against Leptospira spp using the microagglutination technique. Likewise, a macroscopic revision of the kidneys was made, and samples were taken for histopathological analysis. The seroprevalence of Leptospira spp was 50.9% and the frequency of kidney injury was 18.13%. The presence of the eight serovars evaluated was found, with the serovars Pomona, Icterohaemorragiae and Bratislava being the most frequent. Animals serologically positive for Leptospira are 40.56 more likely to have specific lesions associated with the disease at the time of slaughter (p<0.00001; OR = 40.56...

The aim of this study is to present a case in which after the endodontic treatment failed, a cystic lesion was observed in periapical area. The present case concerns a 39 years old female patient without relevant medical history, attended SERODU dental clinic, on clinical examination during the palpation the presence of a soft consistency tumefaction that would be affecting the integrity bone tissue, without symptomatology. The pulp vitality tests turned out to be negative. A radiolucidal shadow compatible with chronic periapical lesion affecting 11 and 12 teeth was observed during the radiographic examination. So it was decided to perform periapical surgery with apicectomy, apical retrograde filling and cystic injury enucleation, followed by guided bone regeneration. At three months of control, radiographically a radiopaque area compatible with bone regeneration was found with a radiolu...

The goal of this study was to evaluate dissociation patterns between processing of linguistic prosody and emotional (or affective) prosody, in order to analyze the functional independence between them. We carried out a multiple single-cases study of 17 patients with right hemisphere lesions due to stroke. The alteration / conservation profiles of the ability to process both types of prosody were analyzed with four tasks of comprehension and repetition of emotional and linguistic prosody. The performance of each patient was compared with a healthy control group. The results showed a dissociated performance between emotional and linguistic prosody in prosodic comprehension in 3/17 patients, and no double dissociations were found. Finding different patterns of alteration / conservation between linguistic and emotional prosody, both in the ability to understand and to repeat prosody, support...

Intraephitelial lesions and invasive cancer of the uterine cervix are associated with human papilloma virus infection. For its detection, cytology, colposcopy and directed biopsies should be perfomed. Between february 1994 and september 1995, 438 patients were evaluated in the Teaching Departament of San Agustin University and Honorio Delgado Hospital. In 73 patients (16,66%) colposcopy was positive and a directed biopsy was performed. In 66 of these patients (90,41%), the histologically findings were: 20 (30,30%) low grade squamous intraepithelial lesions; 35 (53,03%) high grade lesions and in 11 patients (16,66%) invasive cancer. Sexual relations before 18 years, more than 3 sexual partners and the antecedent of sexual transmitted infections were risk factors; but cigarette smoking, low social status and the use of contraceptive methods, were not. In 22 patients (33,33%) histologically...

Introduction. Liver cancer is the seventh most common neoplasm worldwide and the second cause of mortality directly associated with cancer. In Mexico it has an incidence of 3.9% in the entire population. Although computed tomography (CT) is the imaging study of choice, the final diagnosis is established with the anatomopathological study of the lesion. Objective. Correlate the tomographic findings with the histopathological result in patients with liver lesions with suspicion of malignancy, who underwent USG-guided biopsy. Methods. Descriptive, correlation, retrolective, homodemographic and single-center study. The study period was from September 2021 to February 2022. Patients older than 18 years with liver lesions suspicious of malignancy were selected and underwent Computed Axial Tomography and ultrasound-guided biopsy. Shapiro Wilk tests (for normality) were used and chi-square was u...
