Cotton crops were one of the most important during the 50 and 80 decades in Northern Sinaloa, Mexico from the economical point of view. However, external factors such as monoculture and sanitary issues caused its disappearance. Due to the need of diversifying the actual pattern of crops grown in the zone, a great possibility of re-growing cotton crop exists. Actually, there is lack of updated information about irrigation and agronomic management practices of the crop. In order to contribute to a new crop planning, an integral programming model was used to estimate planting dates and windows as well as irrigation planning at different operation levels. Field experiments were conducted at different locations of northern Sinaloa during the growing season 2011-2012 in Ahome and Guasave counties. Each plot had a dimension of 2 hectares and five varieties grown with the purpose of calibrating ...

The goal of this research is to carry out an inventory redistribution following the ABC classification of merchandise, as well as gauge improvement in indicators of inventory rotation and duration in a food production company in Sinaloa, Mexico. The methodology employed comprised 4 stages: a diagnosis of the current situation, generation of inventory redistribution proposals based on ABC classification, implementation and evaluation of results. Inventory rotation and duration performance indicators were measured prior and following implementation, achieving favorable results across 5 products with butter as the standout, whose weekly rotation was increased by 32,92 units while its warehouse time was cut by two days. The information was collected by observing and counting physical inventory units paired with verifying the inventory in the system. The study concluded that inventory managem...

Corn production is affected by fungi of the genus Rhizoctonia. The objective of this study was to characterize, using morphology, DNA sequence analysis, and pathogenicity, Rhizoctonia isolates associated with corn with banded leaf spot symptoms in commercial fields in northern Sinaloa. Diseased plants were collected in the municipalities of Ahome, El Fuerte, and Guasave, obtaining 27 isolates. Morphological characterization on PDA showed colonies with whitish to brown mycelium, pigment release into the medium, and amorphous, red and brown sclerotia with a diameter < 1 mm, characteristics described for Rhizoctonia. For molecular characterization, genomic DNA was extracted, part of the RPB2 gene was amplified by PCR, and the amplified products were sequenced. Phylogenetic analysis confirmed the identification of 18 isolates as Rhizoctonia zeae and 9 isolates as Rhizoctonia solani. The R...

The objective of this work was to identify the species of parasitic nematodes that infect the gonads of female “birdfish” Hyporhamphus naos Banford & Collette, 2001 (Hemiramphidae: Beloniformes). This species of fish is considered key in terms of the local artisanal fishery index, it is economically transcendental for fishermen and regional consumers who annually wait for its arrival in the bay to be consumed. The nematode Philometra Costa, 1845 (Nematoda: Philometridae) was identified parasitizing the female gonads of H. naos. Two immature female nematodes were found (prevalence 8%, mean abundance 0.08 and mean intensity 1). New information is recorded on the distribution of parasitic nematodes of this genus in this area of the tropical Pacific and a new host. This is the first record of Philometra parasitic on female gonads in H. naos fish in Mexico. The first world recor...
