The purpose of the present article is to make a critical analysis to the dominant classic epidemiological positionthat explains health-disease duality from genetics and lifestyles. It talks about how political, economic, cultural, environmental and demographic structure are strongly influenced by the social determinant of health, related tosanitary inequities, which may pose barriers to the adoption of healthy lifestyles, especially to people in extremepoverty, armed conflict, disasters and other hard conditions, which are prevailing circumstances in low andmiddle income countries. It discusses the need to transcend the paradigm of health education which is highlyprescriptive and does not offer the expected results. The research is documentary, and was based on a journalisticliterature review. It concludes that it is necessary to transcend into a holistic paradigm to explain the healthdis...

Carrion's disease or Peruvian wart is being, some time ago, a fertile field of study for national and foreign researchers. Its restricted distribution; the controversial nature of some clinical and pathological stages; the heroic sacrifice of Daniel A. Carrión, young medical student who gave birth in an effort to elucidate problems of a fundamental nature; and severe anemia, unique in many of its characters, which develops in a significant number of cases, the researcher explain why interest in this process.

Among the organs that play important role in Carrion's disease, spleen occupies undoubtedly the first place. Thus, since the beginning of the disease, spleen combat anemia, which is the characteristic of this period, when the bone is still insufficient to repair the increasingly heavy losses desglobulizador process; is this body which defends, in large part, to the warty so frequent bacterial complications in this disease; and, finally, spleen, even though it seems paradoxical, the cause of death of the patient; either by colapsus of the viscera to the hematopoietic paper or septicemia which determines its embolizing their arteries claudication.

There is a group of congenital heart disease characterized anatomically by having a single arterial trunk that arises from both ventricles , riding high interventricular septal defect and will take blood to the systemic , pulmonary and coronary arterial circuits. Dalla Valla moragues and use the term to denote Single Arterial Trunk group heart with the aforementioned common characters and in which regard the Common Arterial Trunk , Trunk Trunk Pulmonary and Aortic Solitaire Solitaire . Maria Victoria De La Cruz, in his study of embryonic stem - channels malformations, shows that congenital heart disease with single arterial trunk represent different forms of alteration in the process of stem - conal septation , where the anatomical similarity derived pathophysiological and conforming nosographic of congenital cardiac malformations Single Arterial Trunk group.

A crucial point in the management of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is to determine the most appropriate treatment for each case. Usually the initial management is outpatient. But depending of the severity hospitalization might be required. Taking into account the polimicrobial nature of this entity, antibiotic therapy will be broad spectrum and the election will be directed to the most frequent microbes. Treatment should not only be directed to the acute process eradication but to the prevention of its complications, such as chronic pelvic pain, infertility and ectopic pregnancy, which can be avoided or minimized if a precocious, aggressive and broad coverage is done. The most severe forms of pelvic inflammatory disease presentation are tubo-ovarian abscess and pelvic abscess. Treatment of these pathologies has varied on time from a very radical conduct in the pre-antibiotic era to a...

Iron is a fundamental element for life, being essential in vital processes such as oxygen transport, electron transfer, enzymatic reactions, aerobic metabolism, photosynthesis or nitrogen fixation. Given the relevance of this element in metabolic routes central to life development, it is unsurprising that a great number of pathologies are linked to iron metabolism problems. Iron pathological species that appear in the frame of some diseases are nanometric materials, whose characterization presents huge difficulties. Detailed knowledge of these species may have great relevance in different problems such as the improvement of malaria diagnostic techniques or the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

The aim of this study was to systematically review the scientific evidence of diseases associated with bronchiectasis in cats, providing a better approach to diagnostic tests and related treatment. The OVID®, SciELO Citation Index® and Redalyc® search platforms were used. A research question was defined, and search terms were used to find relevant articles in the databases. Only original articles and case reports published in indexed journals and under peer review processes were considered, then filtered by title, abstract and full text. Subsequently, the reference lists of the definitive articles were searched for additional information (snowballing). Eight definitive articles were considered for the presentation of results and discussion (seven published in English and one in Spanish, between 1993 and 2019). From the information collected in the eight studies, it can be inferred tha...

The remarkable progress made in Enzymology during recent years , have found prompt and useful application in various fields of medical science . Today there are many diseases attributable to disturbances in the activity of specific enzymes or enzyme systems ; on the other hand the effects of many drugs depend on their influence on enzymatic processes ; various enzymes that are today found useful application in modern therapeutics ; finally determining enzyme s also increasing use in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of various diseases . These and many other reasons make hold Abderhalden ( 1), which are currently on the threshold of a new phase - in the development of medicine, Clinical Enzymology era . Enzymes , organic catalysts , are responsible for most of the chemical reactions of the organism , and are widely distributed in all tissues . Enzymatic determinations do in the di...

Hand, foot and mouth disease is a recurring contagious infection in children living under poor sanitary conditions, especially in developing countries, where a substantial increase in the disease has been reported in recent years. The study aimed to describe and analyze the occurrence of such disease in children, focusing on the most outstanding theoretical aspects that characterize it. For this purpose, a systematic review of the literature was conducted in PubMed, Google Scholar and Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) using logical operators such as "EMPB" OR "Coxsackie A16" AND "Children" AND "Coxsackievirus Infections" AND "Child". A total of 584 research studies in Spanish and English published between 2010 and 2022 were identified, from which, after a scientific quality assessment process using checklists, quality criteria and relevant strength of re...

Fifty patients receiving corticosteroid medication were studied for each different type of liver disease suffer and those who received such medication and other disease processes in which the underlying liver pathology observed or consecutive to that administration. The author concludes that corticosteroids may be used in tables or prolonged torpid evolution, in acute cases, the des progressive offset, or to prevent the entry point of the chronic cases. The dose reduction should be tapered in shape to avoid the rebound phenomenon.

This article analyzes the ethnoclassifications of medicinal plants made by the taote in Rapa Nui. From this perspective, multivocality plays a fundamental role in the creation of this research. Through a qualitative study based on semi-structured interviews and ethnographic records, it examines how the taote (local medical agents) organize and classify plants used in health-disease processes from an emic taxonomy. Different hierarchical levels between plants 'tupuna' (sacred and ancestral), 'own', 'foreign', and 'contemporary' are identified, as well as residual categories (which are not plants but are included as therapeutic elements, such as seawater, mud, sand, stones (maea poro), among others that will be mentioned later).

The aim of the study is to summarise current data on the pathogenetic mechanisms, clinical manifestations and diagnostic criteria of overlap syndrome in autoimmune thyroid diseases and identify potential biomarkers and directions for improving therapeutic strategies to increase the effectiveness of treatment and predict the course of this pathology. In this regard, a search of publications in PubMed, MEDLINE, and Web of Science databases for the period 1980-2025 was conducted. Clinical cases were described where the transformation occurred under the influence of therapy and spontaneously. It is established that antibodies (TPOAb, TgAb, TSHrAb), thyroid hormone levels, and instrumental methods play a key diagnostic role. Molecular mechanisms are highlighted, in particular epigenetic changes (DNA methylation), microRNA profiles, the role of exosomes and antigenic mimicry of infectious agen...

Computed tomography (CT) is a breakthrough technology used in medicine for diagnostic diseases. The same technique is used in other areas, such as aerospace chemistry, Radio astronomy, etc. The main objective of the CT is to reconstruct the internal part of an object without having to open it as a non-destructive test. To achieve this purpose, the CT uses the attention that X-rays undergo through this object with the information, the inner part of the object is reconstructed, that is to say the CT is an inverse problem. In this article uses the Fourier transform for the reconstruction of the internal part, for it is directly part of a continuous model, representing the density at the point (x, y) of a section, with a function p = p(x, y); and even though p is not required to be continuous, the Fourier method is more efficient and a better, more regular result is obtained p.

The most common neurodegenerative disease in the world is Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). Ten percent of Alzheimer patients experience symptoms before the age of 65, and almost all of them present genetic features of autosomal dominant inheritance nature, and penetrance of 92 to 100%. In the present review, we searched for genetic variants associated with early onset Alzheimer's disease (EOAD), emphasizing the most important characteristics and the main mutations. The genes most commonly related to the onset of EOAD are APP, PSEN1, PSEN2 and MAPT, whose mutations affect the metabolism and structure of these proteins. This process results in accumulations of Aβ peptide that leads to activation of the microglia and release of neurotoxic and pro-inflammatory factors that accelerate neurodegeneration. The PSEN1 gene is responsible for 70% of the known mutations in EOAD, while L166P is associate...

While it is true that vaccines generate immunity with a high degree of effectiveness and that in Peru, a certain time was spent initiating the COVID-19 disease, a vaccination process that was developed logistically. The objective was to obtain the mathematical model of the COVID-19 vaccination process in Peru, to estimate the number of people vaccinated, the critical time for which the estimated rate of vaccinated people has been the highest value, and to specify the date on which the highest number of people vaccinated has occurred. The methodology was based on determining the form of dispersion of the vaccination process, this being a logistic distribution and considering that a mathematical model is a mathematical description, by means of a function of a real-world phenomenon, such as the number of people vaccinated against the COVID-19 disease. The model presented a correlation coeff...
