This article develops the category of health craftsmen as a concept that refers to the men and women who, in towns of the north of Antioquia, Colombia, utilize hands, heads and hearts in order to offer a service to others, through the development of different practices for the care of life. This reflection is a result of the exercise of qualitative research based on the use of biographical and narrative methodologies for the construction of the life stories of rural healers. This article explores the following characteristics of health craftsmen: they are subjects of experience; they offer their services to the communities and the communities validate their skills; they perform their jobs in the home-workshop as a creation space; and they develop different practices for the care of life thinking about service and not about their transmission or transfer.

This article presents the concepts developed by Bororo people in their narratives, focusing on the word they use to name them —bakaru— as well as on their manifestations in everyday situations. Our goal is to show how understanding these concepts and their manifestations in the community reveals aspects of Bororo’s life and culture, that are essential knowledge for our professional interactions with them within the school education program. The data presented come from ethnographic research held in the Central Village of Tadarimana in Rondonópolis (Mato Grosso state, Brazil), between 2011 and 2012. They reveal that these narratives constitute a body of guidelines for Bororo life as a prescriptive dimension resulting from how these people conceive the cosmos; and as a formative dimension, when they use them to guide the training...

In this brief essay, I will elucidate the concept of diglossia from the approach of Charles Ferguson (1959) to the multiple uses it has acquired over time. The polysemy of the term in question is a clear indicator that it refers to an enormously complex reality or, indeed, to quite different realities. Indeed, the universe of diglossic relationships is so variegated that it is necessary to carry out a rigorous conceptual analysis in order to avoid falling into unpleasant confusions and unfortunate simplifications. Consequently, my main purpose is to outline the evolution of the concept to see to what extent it is still useful, especially bearing in mind the Peruvian case: what Albe1io Escobar (1979) called the language question in Peru.

This article explores the legal concept of income, focusing on its definition and its implications within the tax legislation. Thus, the author explores two main theories: on the one hand, the source theory establishes that only periodic and lasting income from a specific source is considered as taxable income; on the other hand, the capital gain theory considers as taxable income all benefits received by the taxpayer, regardless of their origin. In this context, the author points out that Peruvian legislation adopts an intermediate formula, which extends the concept of taxable income to certain specific benefits, without going to the extreme of the capital gain theory. He also addresses the challenges in the definition of habitual activities for tax purposes, highlighting the need to establish requirements to qualify a taxpayer as “habitual” due to the lack of a clear definition of ...

In view of the call by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for Latin American States to recognize Venezuelan migrants as refugees, in accordance with the expanded definition contained in the Cartagena Declaration on Refugees (1984), it is necessary to review the evolution of the refugee concept and to take a closer look at the regulations that the most important regional systems for the protection of human rights have adopted on this legal concept. In this way, we will better understand the reasons that allow us to affirm that Venezuelan migrants should be recognized as refugees.

With reference to Marx and the Marx’s reading done by Enrique Dussel, we develop the concept of real subsumption and formal subsumption for Andean early societies, from the category of living work and the object as use value and exchange; considering both social, and environmental. Additionally, we do an interpretative proposal of the way it conducts social relations of consumption to better understand the social relations of production. Also, realize the essence of the historical process in the Andes around early societies (circa 15.200 to 2.800 years BC), based on different modos de vida, which give way to an early social complexity. Finally, we propose some categories for these early periods, from the theoretical contributions of so-called Latin American Social Archaeology
