This article studies the effectiveness of websites of Chilean deputies as a communication tool. Researchers conduct a content analysis of the entire website of parliamentarians at two moments: 2015 and 2018. A first fact is that only half of the deputies have a website, rejecting its potential as a communication tool for citizens. In addition, none of the 129 websites analyzed, 66 in 2015 and 63 in 2018, is effective in terms of digital communication, underutilizing the informative and dialogical potential of this tool. The article also provides information about the use of Facebook and Twitter by parliamentarians. In the light of the results, the websites of Chilean deputies are used in the old logic of mass communication that includes a sender and a passive public, contradicting the digital democratization that characterizes the communication of the 21st century.

This article addresses the importance of developing an instrument that measures media competence, that is, the set of abilities to interact critically with the media. It introduces the problem of media education in the information society and argues the need to assess the skills of citizens in this context. It approaches this need from three perspectives: the pedagogical challenge that implies the little knowledge of the media competence and its little institutional formalization; the political discourse that privileges educational technology over media education; and the methodological question, analyzed from recent assessments of media competence applied in Spain, Chile and Peru, limited to the self-perception. Finally, we propose the construction of an instrument involving two features: integrative in terms of content, and innovative in terms of methodology.

During the quarantine established by the COVID-19 pandemic, peruvian families extended their hours of attention to television, and demonstrated a preference for programs that present topics related to religiosity and domestic violence. Based on a systematization of audience ratings in Lima and six regions, the perception of young university students regarding the reasons for this preference was investigated. A survey was applied to 100 young university students about the rating registered between March 15 and June 30, 2020, of the soap opera “La rosa de Guadalupe” (in Mexican and Peruvian versions) and the “Nunca más”. It was concluded that both programs are preferred because they reflect situations that are familiar and resemble reality. It is also evidenced that television is the most influential medium for the dissemination of social patterns, due to its hegemonic presence in...

Some elements are proposed for the interpretation of the content of the documentary short films produced by Fernando Valdivia, particularly Buscando el azul (2003), situating it on the stage of the Bora tribe. This study resorted to a qualitative methodology of basic, ethnographic and non-experimental nature, taking into account the techniques for the collection of empirical data, such as the interview, the textual stylistics (subject, subject, argument), the point of view; and the procedures (written textuality signings). This methodological instrument allowed making similarities and homologations of the content of the film and the tribal community, circumscribed to the Peruvian Amazonian universe, obtaining some thematic features that help to understand and explain the audiovisual sources.

The following is a proposal of an analysis of the transposition of literature to film of the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and the essay A Grief Observed by C. S. Lewis. The first aim in both cases is to delve into the new contributions of the latest film version of Austin’s novel and the qualities and characteristics of the film version of the C. S. Lewis note pad, based on the theoretical contributions of such authors as Gerard Genette, Geoffrey Wagner, Brian Mcfarlane, among others. The literature of aging explores the deterioration of the human body, while feminist literature explores the problems of gender equality. According to Miguel Sabido (1989) and Albert Bandura (1989), the media, particularly the telenovelas, tend to use stereotypes that portray women and the elderly population negatively. Sabido uses the concepts of education and entertainment to unveil how telenovelas teach societal behavior, allowing a path for social discrimination towards them. Through these concepts, the researchers have demonstrated how the Mexican and Colombian telenovelas negatively portrayed the elderly people, especially women. Such analysis was not done in vain, as it had the purpose of giving agency to the elderly by allowing them to have to power of how they want to be represented in the media.
