This paper explores the idea of community through the proposals of some contemporary thinkers who have tried to rethink the concept of being in common assuming some of its paradoxes. For authors like Roberto Esposito, Jean-Luc Nancy and Giorgio Agamben, thinking “the community” implies reflecting on it from the paradoxes and contradictions it contains, both conceptually and in terms of everyday reality. The central paradox that sums such contradictions is stating that the community is feasible only to the extent that it is not. Close to Russell’s paradox, such aporia allows us to recognize the difference between the community that takes care of its contradictions and inconsistencies, the community of the crisis, and the one that, conceived in absolute and unequivocal terms, is not responsible for their antinomies and contradictions, and leads to what we call the community crisis.

The present work takes on the Kantian concept of ethical community as a critical starting point to construct a conception of civil society that can cope with the pretensions of an exaggerated capitalism that has been articulated through the forging of a global self-regulated market. In order to carry out the analysis, classical works in economic anthropology, such as those of Marcel Mauss and Marshal Sahlins, together with Karl Polanyi’s studies on economics, sociology and economics have been taken as additional support and re-evaluated through the perspective of contemporary works on political and social philosophy.

Currently, various political and economic aspects of the economic crisis that Peru is going through have led to a new approach that sees the mountains as a possible place for new development. This topic is based, to a large extent, on an incomplete analysis of the nature of the economy and society in the mountains, despite the fact that much valuable work has recently been done in the fields of sociology, anthropology and economics. One aspect of the development of the sierra and, indeed, an indicator of its current crisis, has to do with rural-urban migration from the small towns and mountain communities to the coast, especially to Lima.

The objective of this study was to analyze the perceptions of school leaders regarding the principles and practices that guide the construction and development of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) in schools in Chile and Peru. A qualitative methodology with a descriptive scope was employed. Six school leaders were intentionally selected to participate. Data collection was conducted through focus groups, and the analysis was carried out using grounded theory. The results indicate that participants emphasize pedagogical and distributed leadership as key factors in consolidating PLCs, fostering collaboration and critical reflection on teaching practices. It is concluded that PLCs are fundamental in creating collaborative cultures that enhance educational quality, provided that a shared vision of learning is established.

Dicistroviruses are a family of viruses that affect invertebrates of sanitary and economic importance. Pigeons are also natural reservoirs of pathogens that have caused emerging and re-emerging diseases in humans. Twenty-five pigeons (24 Columba livia and one Zenaida auriculata) were captured in La Plata, Buenos Aires, between May and June 2019. Oropharyngeal/choana and then cloacal swabs were taken from each bird. RNA extraction was performed with Trizol®. For the analysis, 5 μl of total RNA was used for complementary DNA (cDNA) synthesis. The reaction was carried out using multiplex PCR (mPCR) as screening methodology in a final volume of 25 μl. This multiplex PCR amplifies six viruses. As a positive control, a sample previously isolated and characterized in the authors' laboratory as Israeli acute paralysis virus (IAPV) was used, and whose presence was confirmed by screening using ...

The present article discusses the way we approach the process of change in rural communities with active presence of extractive industries. As an example, it presents a study about a peasant community from the Peruvian northern coast where a petroleum extraction project is being developed. The case analysis suggests that, in such contexts, different and conflicting patterns of resource, such as land usage, valuation, access and appropriation are configured, leading to a very complex scenario for the decision making process about the future of these resources. The article thus states that categories such as social-environmental management, conflict resolution, and negotiation can lead to a simplified interpretation of reality. In this sense, by presenting some critical issues, it argues the importance of adopting anthropological and sociological approaches in order to consider the...

Obesity and overweight are problems of malnutrition and public health in the communities and societies of the current era. Stopping and reducing them are immediate objectives of development, which not everyone assumes, especially those affected by their behavior and mentality, which deserves to be known. The study explores the beliefs and attitudes of residents of an urban community, against obesity and overweight, applying a mixed approach, qualitative observational in the first part and quantitative, descriptive, probabilistic by conglomerates, in the second. 240 inhabitants were surveyed, men and women from 18 to 70 years old; and 2456 people of all ages were observed. The analysis triangulates the information collected through surveys, interviews and observations. Individual and collective experiences were very unique in the processes of socialization, nutrition and social mobility; ...

This article delves into the processes of school autonomy that emerged at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, from the lenses given by the analysis of the policy cycle of the federal government intervention to secure the continuity in distance education. Through a documentary review of academic literature and official documents, as well as interviews and focus groups with figures of basic and upper secondary education, it is concluded that, historically, school autonomy has been a diffuse political project in Mexico and that it was not a present axis in the government’s response to the emergency. However, some school communities have demanded recognition of their autonomy to decide and act collectively.

Developmental policies, or development projects in general, have consistently failed to achieve their stated objectives by being based on a «construction» of the country/community/space that bears little relation to local culture. While development projects fail, the government succeeds in expanding the field of bureaucratic state power in the space that needs to be «developed». Seen from a notion of governmentality, socially legitimated authorities interfere in spaces isolated from the actual development by focusing on adjudicating the vices or virtues of developmental policies and their risks or lack thereof. In this way, risk works as a calculative rationally associated with welfare as a way of representing events, such as flooding, so they can be made governable. By focusing on the contrast between the risk perceptions of the state and river communities in the district of Belen, ...

The San Borja Huaca is in a very distinctive context: at the border of the district of San Borja, at the border of a slum opposed a housing complex, and at the back of large-scale buildings such as the Ministry of Culture. Despite seemingly having concluded the value enhancement process, the San Borja Huaca remains closed to the public with no admission for visitors. The combination of circumstances of the minimal attention to the Huaca by the authorities added to the isolation between both communities provides a disadvantageous scenario for the bonding towards the Huaca, but this does not imply that the bonding could not happen. This research aims to provide an overview of the present, using qualitative metrics to recognize heritage values held by all the social stakeholders associated with the San Borja Huaca, emphasizing on the social stakeholders who should be most capable of enjoyin...

As the population grows, sewage sludge production will continue to increase due to necessary increase in the number of wastewater treatment plants. This work analyzes studies from recent years on the use of sewage sludge to obtain activated carbon (AC). The results indicate that in 2013 there was a greater scientific production (13,86 %) compared to other years and the country that stands out in the research is China (52,48 %). They also show that 77,23 % of the studies used sewage sludge as the only raw material, and 22,77 % used sewage sludge plus another precursor to improve the adsorption performance of the activated carbons. Removal efficiencies ≥ 50 % were indicated in dyes, organic compounds, chemical compounds and heavy metals (63,6 %, 68,2 %, 71,4 %, 60,6 % respectively), in turn, drugs had a higher percentage (66,7 %) in removal efficiencies < 50 %. In conclusion, there is...
