In the implant rehabilitations supported in the previous sector, a surgical and prosthetic protocol should be carried out as a mechanism to ensure the aesthetics and function of the procedure to be performed. The objective of this clinical case is to present a rehabilitation protocol in a soft tissue test and management document to preserve aesthetics through provisional prosthetic structures, ending with rehabilitation with the zirconium oxide abutment with titanium base and a crown of lithium disilicate as means to achieve high aesthetics. The prediction of a unitary implant in the anterior sector requires the clinician to know three-dimensional structures conjugated with a soft tissue and material handling in an appropriate way, to predict the medium- or long-term behavior in the protection and prevention of aesthetics.

OBJECTIVE: To determine if the epidemiological, clinical and laboratorial features observed among hyperthyroid patients with Graves disease, influence the appearence of Graves Ophtalmopathy (GO). MATHERIAL AND METHODS: Analitical, observational and cross-sectional trial of 97 hyperthyroid patients. 69 patients completed the inclusion criteria. RESULTS: GO is more frequent among women (1, 1: 1) and in the fifth decade, although none of them were significant. Simultaneous onset between systemic complaints and GO, in the first six months, had statistical significance. Tobacco did correlate significantly with development of GO. Severe involvement of GO are more frequent in males. Exophtalmos was present in 27% of patients. CONCLUSIONS: The first six months of onset of clinical manifestations of Graves disease and smoking habit should alert us about the risk of GO development. Exophtalmos is ...

Traumatic fibroma is a benign neoplasm that is triggered by the activation of platelet-derived growth factors (PDGF). These factors bind to specific receptors on the surface of fibroblasts, triggering the autophosphorylation of tyrosine residues and thus promoting the migration and proliferation of cells responsible for repair, such as fibroblasts. This injury arises mainly due to local, chronic or repetitive low-intensity traumatic factors, which can cause histological changes, such as pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia. The purpose of this work is to present a case of a traumatic fibroma derived from pausing and partially suspending dental consultations when wearing orthodontic appliances that are in contact with soft tissues. Demonstrating that in health emergency situations that lead to the closure of academic institutions where patients are treated, monitoring protocols must be imple...

Vital signs like the fever usually are frustrating for the binomial doctor-patient; as such it is indispensable to have in mind a series of steps that direct us to the etiologic diagnosis of this pathological modality. We cannot face this disturbance by following protocols recommended by authors of the first world, as many times we remain halfway, constituting a loss of time and frustration. That is why we need to reorganize an established affluent protocol. In this paper, the English diagnosis protocol is reorganized in order to deduce the etiologic factor in Fever of unknown origin (FOD). Most of the authors expert on the subject recommend four divided diagnosis phases according to the tools (technological and scientific) of diagnosis. The intention of this paper is to regroup the diagnosis modality in benefit of hospital units of Latin America and other developing countries. We presen...

Sr. Editor.

Objectives: To evaluate the clinical effects and radiographically analyze the effectiveness of fibrin-rich plasma (FRP) in post-extraction bone preservation in a resource-limited community, considering its potential to mitigate complications and facilitate future rehabilitation. Materials and Methods: A case series was conducted in San Vicente Chicoloapan, State of Mexico, analyzing four patients treated with FRP after dental extractions. The protocol included centrifugation of blood at 1300 rpm for 8 minutes to obtain FRP, which was placed in the alveolus after extraction. Clinical and radiographic follow-up was performed using Handy Dentist software to assess healing, changes in bone height, and density. Results: In all four cases, complete gingival healing was achieved without complications. The case with the longest follow-up showed 97.8% bone preservation at seven months. Radiograph...

Introduction: The premature loss of one or more primary teeth in children under 10 years of age, mainly due to dental trauma or a cariogenic process, causes a reduction of space for definitive teeth; in this case, it is essential to use space maintainers depending on each specific case, since the choice of an adequate method would prevent later problems arising from the loss of space as well as from inadequate use of these devices. Objective: To analyze the use of fixed retainers in the absence of primary molars in patients under 10 years of age. Materials and methods: A descriptive review of the literature was carried out using search strategies in the PubMed database published between 2017 and 2022. Results: Through the strategies used, 53 articles were found, from which those that did not contain comparisons between space maintainers and cementation failures were removed, leaving 14...

Squamous cell carcinoma arises from the epithelium of the oral mucosa, common in the fifth and sixth decades of life and is typically associated with risk factors such as smoking and alcohol consumption. Worldwide, the incidence of oral cancer is higher among men than women. The increase in the incidence of cancer in Mexico requires proper management and the use of vascularized flaps to repair defects generated by a hemimandibulectomy with safety margins. Despite the advent of vascularized free tissue grafts, the myocutaneous pectoralis major flap remains a pedunculated flap widely used for the reconstruction of soft tissue defects in the oral and maxillofacial region. The surgical protocol carried out at the ISSSTE “General Ignacio Zaragoza” Regional Hospital for the treatment of mandibular squamous cell carcinoma is shown.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major global public health problem. It is a leading cause of death and disability in children and adolescents worldwide. Although increased intracranial pressure (ICP) is common and associated with death and poor outcome after pediatric TBI, the efficacy of current ICP-based management remains controversial. We intend to provide Class I evidence testing the efficacy of a protocol based on current ICP monitor-based management vs care based on imaging and clinical examination without ICP monitoring in pediatric severe TBI. METHODS: A phase III, multicenter, parallel-group, randomized superiority trial performed in intensive care units in Central and South America to determine the impact on 6-month outcome of children aged 1-12 years with severe TBI (age-Appropriate Glasgow Coma Scale score ?8) randomized to ICP-based or non-ICP-b...
