This study aims to know how the training processes of practicing teachers contribute to the construction of beliefs about teaching at the university. Froma qualitative methodology with agrounded theory approach, professors from public and private universities were selected through theoretical sampling. In-depth interviews were conducted to collect data whichwere analytically coded. Among the results it was found that the teachers' beliefs come frominstitutional training of a normative typewhich emphasizes a functional teaching in didactic techniques, use of technology and innovation, excluding training in knowledge of the discipline they teach. Thus,it was also found that teachers carry out self-training processes on a personal initiativefor updating scientific knowledgeand develop their practices teaching with strategies that they themselves use to learn, because they believe in their o...

This study analyzes the psychometric structure of the CAPE- R scale, which assesses the beliefs about the educational process in rural teachers; explores the teacher´s profile, and analyzes the significant differences between the beliefs according to sociodemographic variables. The sample included 150 rural teachers from Mendoza, Argentina. The exploratory factor analysis yielded a factorial structure made up of four factors that explained a 44.19% of the variance of responses to the test. Internal consistency coefficients ranged from .74 to .85. The data show a predominance of difficulties in the educational process dimension (M=2.83; DE=.69), the only dimension that reached a significant association with the educational level of the classes (F =4.77, p<.05).

Most people have claimed that religious beliefs are constituted in the same way as factual beliefs. Eric Mandelbaum suggests a more radical view, for he claims that forming a belief, whether it is religious credence or genuine belief, is similar to having direct contact with a fact that is perceived or represented in our minds: the fixation of beliefs is an effortless and automatic process. This model of our mind’s architecture is called “the Spinozan model”. Neil Van Leeuwen, on the contrary, claims that factual beliefs characterize the background and default frame that we use for tracking truths and behaving in determined ways, whereas religious beliefs function differently. This paper aims to show that, even though Van Leeuwen’s distinction between factual beliefs and religious credences is more plausible than the Spinozan model’s presupposition that both attitudes are the s...

This article considers that the social function of journalism is based on the belief in the journalistic objectivity, true illusio which involves a set of explicit and implicit rules that structure and define this social game. For this reason, we propose to investigate the processes of socialization and subjectivation that imply the incorporation of the belief in the journalistic objectivity and a series of mechanisms intended for production. In this sense, and since we postulate the need to reinstate the agent of the practices, in theoreticalmethodological link the perspective of relational sociology with the journalistic experiences reconstructed on the basis of the experiences of the journalists interviewed in our research.

We describe the process by which items of a belief scale in obesity and bariatric surgery were generated using mixed methods. Participants were 22 Ecuadorian bariatric patients between 22 and 50 years old (M = 37.5, SD= 8.91). A semi-structured interview was constructed, validated, and conducted. The information was analyzed using directed content analysis, guided by the Health Belief Model. The beliefs varied according to sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, particularly age, sex, surgical technique, and postoperative evolution. The level of susceptibility, severity and benefits were mainly associated with the consequences of the loss of psychological well-being and social acceptance. Meanwhile, a greater perception of barriers was found in women, people who experienced negative emotions and those with less social support.

In the framework of social perception and attribution theories, fundamental bias of Just World Beliefs developed by Lerner (1965) states that people need to see world as a just place in order to cope with an ordered and controlled sociophysical environment. By holding this ideas people can involve in long term proposes as in daily life social regulated behavior. Pursuing the isolation of a “cognitive invariant”, Just World Beliefs (JWB) thesis can be seeing as dealing with a natural aspect of human being not conditioned by social, cultural or ideological factors. In the need of recovering social dimension of attribution processes, pre- sent study aimed to examine the relationship between Just Word Beliefs (Rubin & Peplau, 1973) and some social variables. The analysis triangulates the information collected through surveys, interviews and observations. Individual and collective experiences were very unique in the processes of socialization, nutrition and social mobility; ...

Do wives’ household decision-making power and husbands’ egalitarian beliefs concerning women’s roles independently determine contraceptive use? Do they determine fertility desire in analogous ways? What is the function of age, education, and work in these processes? Analyses of Demographic and Health Surveys’ Couple Recode data sets targeted nonpregnant women living with a sexual partner and the partner. The analyses encompassed rural and urban samples from India (N = 23,342), Indonesia (N = 7,219), and Nigeria (N = 7,062), and a rural sample from Ethiopia (N = 2,531). Wife’s fertility desire decreased as husband’s egalitarianism in urban settings and wife’s power in rural areas increased.
