The aim of this research was to identify the levels of reading comprehension, the use of strategies and the motivation towards reading, and to relate them to different sociodemographic and academic variables, in students of the Biology career of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Campus Iztacala. Fifty-four students participated and were remotely applied the Instrument for Assessing Reading Comprehension in University Students, the Inventory of Metacognitive Strategies and Reading Motivation and a self-report to measure various academic and socio-demographic variables. Background: Mechanical reasoning (MR) is the ability to identify the components of a system and understand how they interact in order for the system to work. Different mechanical systems, such as those of wheels and gears, require different types of reasoning. Objective: This study seeks to analyze the relationship that working memory (WM) and processing speed (PS) have with MR. Method: One hundred seventy-three (173) university students were assessed through the DAT test which consisted of 30 MR problems, the symbol search subtest of the WAIS-III battery for assessing the PS, and the BIMET-V and BIMET-VE batteries to evaluate the WM verbal and visuospatial components. The stirring speed required for the culture of kefir grains was studied, to optimize its growth in a culture medium of molasses and whey. The results show that this mixture of microorganisms requires stirring to optimize its growth and can grow in a wide range of stirring speeds, from laminar flow, with Reynolds number lower than 2000, to turbulent flow with Reynolds number greater than 3500. This shows that the culture of kéfir grains, can adapt to different stirring speeds, making its culture very easy with respect to this variable

The propagation of light in 99,99 % of empty space existing in natural systems is investigated to a new level of description, assuming that light is the only inuence that can transmit information. First, the electromagnetic eld is considered as a non-inertial reference system and it is deduced by geometric reasoning that the propagation vector of the electromagnetic wave changes direction at each instant of time due to the angular velocity associated with the plane of vibration of the electric/magnetic eld. La comprensión lectora en inglés es una problemática significativa en el Perú. Sin esta habilidad, los estudiantes no logran aprender inglés correctamente ya que la comprensión es fundamental para la adquisición del idioma. Field orientation control is a technique used in AC servo mechanisms that makes it possible to achieve a rapid torque response because it is based on the interaction between flux and current as in a DC motor. La investigación advierte que en la entrevista de empleo los entrevistados frecuentemente distorsionan sus respuestas, de forma intencional y consciente, para lucir más aptos; por tanto, Levashina y Campion (2007) proponen el constructo Falseamiento para estudiar este fenómeno y la escala IFB para medirlo. In the present work I analyzed the variability of the seeds size of Vismia glaziovii Ruhl. and its Vismia glaziovii Ruhl. and its Vismia glaziovii possible effect on germination speed and its seedling size. The results show that the size of the seeds does not vary signifi cantly between trees from which they came; but the variation as large as seed between the fruits of each tree is signifi cant. Also, the size of the seed does not infl uence the speed of germination nor the seedling size. We suggested that variability in size is not suffi cient as indicator of differences in the amount of stored resource. This study will allow contributing to the knowledge of some aspects of the dynamics of seeds and the regeneration of this species.

The objective of this research is to determine the relationship between the processes that make up reading comprehension (perceptive, lexical, syntactic and semantic) and the metacognitive reading skills (planning, supervision and evaluation) in students of cycle V (5th and 6th grade of elementary school) from a private school, located in the district of Santiago de Surco, Lima (Peru). The instruments used were the Battery of Evaluation of the Reading Processes - Revised (PROLEC-R) and adapted for students of Metropolitan Lima, and the Scale of Reading Consciousness (ESCOLA). The sample consisted of 80 students (50 of the 5th grade and 30 of the 6th grade), being a non-probabilistic by convenience, sampling. Se ejecutó un estudio descriptivo transversal con el objetivo de determinar las variables asociadas al riesgo familiar en los asentamientos humanos 28 de Julio y Triunfo del distrito de Belén, 2013. La rr¡uestra seleccionada en forma probabilística estuvo conformada por 237 fainilias, a quienes se aplicó instrumentos estandarizados como el test de percepción del funcionamiento familiar (validez 0,94 y confiabilidad 0,88), escala de riesgo familiar (confiabilidad 0,783), escala de Apoyo Familiar (confiabilidad 0.85 y validez 0.86). Los hallazgos mostraron que el 55,30% son familias nucleares, 62,40% en etapa de consolidación, 32,90% con hijos adolescentes. La salud percibida de las familias es calificada mayormente como "regular", el 70% infoimó 1~orbilidad sentida, especialmente los hijos. El 70% de las familias refieren moderado apoyo familiar. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la influencia de la lectura crítica en las competencias investigativas de estudiantes de maestría. El enfoque fue cuantitativo, desde el modelo de regresión lineal múltiple. Se utilizaron dos instrumentos: un cuestionario de pensamiento crítico (CPC2) y un cuestionario de competencias investigativas para una muestra de 215 maestrandos de dos nacionalidades. Como resultado, el 39,4 % de los cambios en las competencias investigativas se deben al incremento de la edad y del desarrollo de la lectura crítica. Las variables lectura crítica y edad han sido significativas (intervalo de confianza al 95 %: 0,943; 1,061).
