The color black, within the extensive body of studies on Federico García Lorca, has typically been analyzed as a visual element in the poet's palette and in its figurative sense associated with night, death, mourning, grief, or evil, with few variations. This paper undertakes a thorough examination of how this color acquires a different significant nuance, one whose foundation can already be found in his early works. Recognizing this nuance and its connections with what is “burnt” provides an additional key to better understanding the avant-garde works of this author.

This article focuses on the impact of La poesía francesa moderna on the poetry and poetics of César Vallejo. I first examine how Vallejo processes and cites his readings in his thesis El Romanticismo en la poesía castellana and briefly describe the anthology of Díez-Canedo and Fortún. I then situate Vallejo and his reading of French symbolist poetry in translation in the Peruvian socio-literary context between 1914 and 1922, the year Trilce was published. Finally, I analyse the presence of the anthology in the poems «Simbolista», the first version of «Retablo», from Los heraldos negros, and in Trilce «LV».

Literature as an artistic phenomenon is a proposal to create meaning and negotiate aesthetic values within a community. When this interaction occurs in the university environment, building up meaning is part of the academic discursive practices. Becoming familiar with these practices and successfully reproducing them requires specialized training. This article is based on the theory of critical reading, and presents a systematic and functional methodology to strategically read short narrative literary texts in an early-year college literature class. This competency-based approach privileges the collective construction of meaning and gives the student an active role in their learning. Therefore, it trains individuals capable of reading critically and appreciating an artistic product. We include a guide to commenting on short stories and a methodology for class discussion.

Considering that the entire written work by César Vallejo has been read and analyzed by national and international literary criticism, we propose to highlight the importance of The Black Heralds (1919) in the whole of this work and underline the thematic and expressive constants between the aforementioned collection of poems and Vallejiana production in verse and prose, literary, academic and journalistic. In this work I will use the category of intertextuality to establish with precision and in a well-founded way the connections that exist between the 1919 book and the works that the author published in life and those that have been published posthumously, signifivantly increasing his literary corpus. As appropriate, I will consult exhaustively the relevant bibliography about this topic.

As a law student progresses through the semesters of his career, he also identifies with the branch of law in which he plans to specialize. Particularly, those who like Criminal Law find interest in detective literary novels or so-called black humor, in which there is a death, a robbery or any crime to unravel. Thus, this work aims to explain how the famous novels (all best sellers) by John Grisham generate such a passion in university students that, although the author did not intend it, he has generated it as a consequence. For this study, from the long literary production, four of them have been taken into account, of which famous phrases or situations worthy of analysis are cited. And while it is true that emphasis is placed on the student's inclination towards these novels, it is also true that once graduated, it is Literature that accompanies or should accompany the professional de...

The production, circulation and consumption of the first modern short stories, by foreign and national authors, occurred in illustrated magazines from the beginning of the 20th century Actualidades, Novedades and Prisma. This novel literary format, associated with the modernist horizon, was cultivated not only by Peruvian male writers, but also by female writers. The main objective of this article is to vindicate the figure and work of María Augusta Arana, an author completely unknown to literary history. Her social trajectory and her briefly essays are studied. Furthermore, are analyzed the short stories “Un Lote negro” (1903), published in Novedades, and “El desenlace de un sueño” (1907), published in Actualidades, are analyzed. Due to the quality of her work, she is one of the founders of the modern short story in Peru.
