This article displays the main foundations and findings of a research on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in legal English courses at Universidad Santo Tomás in Villavicencio (Colombia), intended to provide an answer to the following question: What is the impact of fostering Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) within legal English classes? The study was a descriptive longitudinal mixed methods approach research developed over two years with 56 law students with an age range between 21 and 23 years that delved into three issues, namely, students’ perceptions concerning legal English classes, after two years of participating in lessons designed under Bloom’s taxonomy; students’ insights regarding HOTS and their influence on learning a foreign language and on their future performance as lawyers, and the identification and analysis of strengths and weaknesses of the methodology imp...

The study presented aims to promote and understand the agent commitment of students, future educators, in initial education through an expanded educational experience in order to proactively rethink their professional role. Participated 41 students from the Faculty and the Bachelor of Initial Education, who were studying the third year of the career at the National University of Río Cuarto, Argentina. Under an interpretive qualitative design, an expansive educational experience was designed so that students could proactively rethink their professional role from their agencies, based on an activity that proposed going to the territory, specifically, walking the city, in search of art to teach. Data were collected in three moments, during the investigation almost finished and already concluded. The results show that students develop proactive actions and emotions that motivate rethinking ...

Using National Household Survey data, this study examines the situation of Peruvian middle class households in Metropolitan Lima and Callao prior to the COVID-19 pandemic through financial and non-financial variables in order to identify vulnerability factors in the overall population and in income quintiles. The analysis has revealed that health, income and labor are the most vulnerable indicators and could be heavily affected by government measures against COVID-19, such as mandatory social isolation (lockdown), social distancing, and movement and gathering restrictions. In this context, households in the lowest quintile are substantially more susceptible to falling into poverty due to economic instability, labor informality and lack of social protection. The study results suggest that the definition of “vulnerability” needs to go beyond poverty measurements to improve the focaliza...

The objective was to determine the correlation between gamification and motivation. It was developed through quantitative, non-experimental and correlational research. We worked with a census population of 253 students of regular basic education. To obtain data, the Gamification Observation Guide by García (2020) and the MSLQ Motivation Questionnaire by T. García et al. (1988). The results indicated that there is a very low, significant relationship of 0.025 (p value = 0.0694> 0.05). It is concluded that gamification is not related to the motivation of the students, most of the teachers, in the development of their classes, do not use digital tools - a necessary element in the delivery of classes at a distance and virtually due to the difficult situation caused by COVID-19. Likewise, teachers suffer from inexperience in handling social networks, videoconferences and online forms.

This study aims to assess the relationship between the variables of social class and religion in parental preferences regarding the socialization of values in contemporary Chile. Employing data from the 5th Metropolitan Survey of Family and Education, logistic models were estimated that show that upper-class families tend to favor more symbolic-relational values such as good manners and respect for others, while lower classes privilege social promotion values such as hard work and saving capacity. Parents who identify as Evangelical Christians, on the other hand, place a firm emphasis on values such as religious belief.

This article analyzes the formation of a new working class in the development poles that were established in Patagonia and Amazonia during the 1960s and 1970s. The growth of industry required the influx of workers to these areas, but this does not imply that there were no workers there initially. However, the scale of the transformation that took place led to the development of what can be called a new class. This class included migrants from various areas who had few traditions and experiences in common and a history conditioned by industrialization dependent on state subsidies. We analyze how each working class grew and the forms of struggle and organization they developed. The study is based on a literature survey, journalistic sources, census data, and interviews with workers. Studying this process contributes to an understanding of similar dynamics in other countries, where experien...

The aim of this study was identified by amplification of microsatellite alleles of the Major Histocompatibility Complex BoLA Class II associated with resistance and susceptibility to Boophilus microplus in cattle, Junín, Peru. We collected blood sample of 47 cattle, as well as specimens of B. microplus during the months of march, april and may 2009 in the morning, the right side of each animal. Genomic DNA extraction was performed by the method of Phil Summers (1995) and amplification of microsatellites DRB3.2, DRB31 and BM1815 was by PCR in an automatic sequencer. Data were evaluated using the program POPG 32. We identified alleles A, B and C related to resistance and susceptibility to B. microplus in cattle both in the BoLA locus BoLA DRB3.2 as BM1815. Allele frequencies were estimated: the DRB3.2 locus allele frequency was 0.2742, allele B was 0.5000 and the C allele was 0.2258, in t...

This study defines and characterizes etno-racial self-identification patterns of the Peruvianpopulation employing the Encuesta Nacional de Hogares (Enaho) 2012. For this purpose, we have employed a module with questions recently added to this survey, in order to approach empirically to the notion of identity, combining the dimensions of native language, self-acknowledgment and the notion of indigenous population. The results are based on a latent classes analysis employing, at the same time, the information in this questions in order to identify four possible etnoracial identities. These identities are intertwined in the self-acknowledgment process with certain ancestors and customs, and also the one based on language. With the methodology and the data collected, we haven’t found evidence that point that ethnic identities are multiple and fluent. The ethnic identit...

This dissertation investigates the potential improvement of volcanic eruption understanding and forecasting methods by using advanced data processing techniques to analyze large datasets at three target volcanoes (Piton de la Fournaise (PdlF) (France), Sabancaya, and Ubinas (Peru)). The central objective of this study is to search for possible empirical relationships between the pre-eruptive behavior of the accelerated increase in seismic activity using the Failure Forecast Method (FFM) and velocity variations measured by Coda Wave Interferometry (CWI), since both observations are reported to be independently associated with medium damage. The FFM is a deterministic method used to forecast volcanic eruptions using an empirical relationship of increased and accelerated evolution of an observable (e.g., volcano-seismic event rates). The event rates used with FFM in this study were generate...
