One mechanism for estimating software quality is through the use of metrics, which are functions that evaluates certain characteristics of the product quality development. A software product can be evaluated from different points of view, and in that sense, the results of the evaluations are numeric vectors, which together describe the quality of the software. This research uses data from NASA's open access which undergo a process of reducing the dimensionality by principal component analysis (PCA), then applied three clustering techniques and evaluates the best grouping using Rand Index. Finally, the top clusters are tested with regression to find the metrics that are related to the error of the Software. The results suggest that groups consisting of software modules whose code source have a higher average of blank lines, show a higher density of error. This could be interpreted as an i...

Currently, the criteria to air quality assessment are analyzed independently, leaving aside the systemic approach of the environment, where air quality is influenced and controlled by many types of factors, where several parameters interact and mutually restrict each other for that reason a higher evaluation system is proposed by Grey Clustering analysis based on fuzzy logic, which takes into account the high degree of uncertainty present in the environment. The methodological proposal will assess the quality of air in Lima Metropolitana. In this work, we apply Center-point triangular whitenization weight functions (CTWF) method, where it will be demonstrated that the proposed model is exact, comparable and applicable. The monitoring data on each city of Lima Metropolitana were obtained from National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology of Peru – Senamhi. The CTWF method was applied us...

Paenibacillus polymyxa, a Gram-positive bacterium commonly found in soil and plant roots, plays an important role in the environment due to its nitrogen-fixing ability and is renowned for producing antibiotics like polymyxin. In this study, we present a robust framework for investigating the evolutionary and taxonomic connections of strains belonging to P. polymyxa available at the National Center for Biotechnology Information, as well as five new additional strains isolated at the University of Camerino (Italy), through pangenome analysis. These strains can produce secondary metabolites active against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Employing techniques such as digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH), average nucleotide identity (ANI) estimation, OrthoFinder, and ribosomal multilocus sequence typing, we consistently divided these P. polymyxa strains into four clusters, whi...

The aim of this study was to characterize the morphology of the creole goat of the Volcanes de Colima physiographic sub-province, Mexico. Seventeen body measurements were taken from 371 goats older than two years and four racial indices and 17 functional indices were calculated. Data were analysed using Pearson correlation, principal component, and hierarchical cluster analysis. The rump angle, chest width and all measurements of the ears and udder showed the greatest variability. Also, the goats showed great morpho-structural harmony. Racial indices showed that goats are dolichocephalic, ellipometric, and have a convex rump, while functional indices indicated dual-purpose zootechnical aptitude. Four principal components explained 84.5% of the variation of body measurements. Rump angle, hearth girth, body length and ear l...

The antibiotically bioactive thiopeptide compound kocurin was identified in extracts from a newly isolated Kocuria rosea strain. The axenic strain was retrieved from a soil sample of the intertidal area at the Paracas National Park, Peru. The genetic basis of this promising natural product with activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains was revealed by comparative genome analysis of this new isolate and other reported thiopeptide producer strains. The functionality of the predicted gene locus was experimentally proven by heterologous expression in Streptomyces coelicolor M1146. Expression of the gene cluster under the control of a constitutive promoter enabled the transgenic strain to produce kocurin in selected media. The kocurin biosynthetic gene cluster comprises nine open reading frames and spans around 12 kbp of the genome.

Earth's behavior comprehension can be achieved by the analysis of Remote Sensing data, but considering the unprecedented volumes of information currently provided by different satellites sensors, the problem can be regarded as a big data problem. Machine learning techniques have the potential to improve the analysis of this type of data; however, most current machine learning algorithms are unable to properly process such huge volumes of data. In the attempt to overcome the computational limitations related to Remote Sensing Big Data analysis, we implemented the K-Means algorithms, a clustering technique, as distributed solution, exploiting the capabilities of cloud computing infrastructure for processing very large datasets. The solution was developed over the InterCloud Data Mining Package, which is a suite of distributed classification methods, previously employed in hyperspectral ima...

The stability of the LinBnH2n (n = 3–6) series was analyzed using quantum chemical calculations, and it was found that cyclic isomers are not energetically favored. This is different to what happens in their organic counterparts (CnH2n), where cyclopentane (C5H10) and cyclohexane (C6H12) are the low-lying isomers. Apparently, aromaticity is a key-stabilizing factor that needs to be considered for designing stable lithium-boron hydride analogues of cyclic organic compounds. This is verified in the Li3B3H3+ system, which has been designed as the smallest aromatic carbocation (C3H3+) analogue. The global minimum structure of Li3B3H3+ contains a triangular B3H32− moiety, which has structural and chemical bonding features similar to its organic counterpart. Besides, this new cluster is classified as aromatic according to both the 4n + 2 Hückel rule and the analysis of the induced magneti...

Genomics has revolutionized our understanding of the microbial world. From the surveillance and epidemiology of emerging pathogens to comprehending the evolution and adaptation of bacteria to their hosts. Despite enormous advances, significant gaps persist, particularly in the study of the diversity and evolution of bacteria residing in wildlife microbiomes and the emergence of bacterial pathogens affecting livestock in low- and middle-income countries. In the present work, using different comparative genomics approaches, I study three bacterial species: the pathogenic Salmonella Typhimurium isolated from guinea pig (Cavia porcellus) in Peru and Kerstersia gyiorum and Neisseria sp. isolated from free-living brown-throated sloths (Bradypus variegatus) in Brazil. Salmonella Typhimurium is the main pathogen infecting guinea pigs in Peru. First, I perform a genomic characterization of S. Typ...

Cotton is a resilient and multipurpose crop, meeting major of the world’s textile needs while also yielding byproducts like edible oil and animal feed. Starch plays a crucial role in cotton fabric production. It enhances fabric strength by forming a protective film around cotton fibers, making them more resistant to wear and tear. BES1 (brassinosteroid insensitive 1) is a key regulator in brassinosteroid signaling. It controls thousands of target genes involved in development processes. Interestingly, two β-amylase proteins (BAM7 and BAM8) are part of the BES1 family, despite their primary function as β-amylases. β-Amylase (BAM) and BES1 are two gene families with functional and regulatory roles in controlling shoot growth and development by mediating brassinosteroid effects. They share similar domains and participate in various biological processes, tolerance and responses to ...

Mineral composition modulates plant health, agro-morphological attributes, and functional quality in coffee, yet large-scale evaluations remain limited. In 150 Coffea arabica L. accessions, we quantified grain minerals (Ca, K, Mg, Na, P, Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn); resistance to coffee leaf miner (CLM), coffee berry borer (CBB), and coffee leaf rust (CLR); agro-morphological traits; bioactive compounds (phenolics, flavonoids, chlorogenic acid, trigonelline, caffeine); and antioxidant capacity (ABTS, DPPH, FRAP). Mn and Zn were associated with greater resistance to CBB and CLM, whereas P and Ca related with lower susceptibility to CLR; a P–Zn antagonism emerged as a critical nutritional axis. Phosphorus was linked to larger size and higher 100-bean mass; Ca and Mg to greater fruit number and fruit mass per plant; and Fe to improved filling and higher 100-bean mass in parchment coffee. For bioactiv...

Smallanthus sonchifolius (yacon) is a functional food native to the South American Andes. Its tuberous root and leaves are the main parts consumed; however, few studies have been carried out on its phenotypic variability. This study aimed to characterize 214 yacon accessions from the Germplasm Bank of the Instituto Nacional de Innovación Agraria (INIA), Peru. Twelve qualitative and seven quantitative variables were used. Accession Y-74 showed the largest leaf dimensions, while Y-28 showed the highest productivity per plant. Multiple correspondence analysis and principal component analysis revealed that the variables propagule color, leaf shape, root pulp color, leaf length and width, root weight per plant, and yield contributed significantly to the discrimination and identification of promising accessions. The geographical grouping of the accessions showed differences between accessions...
