Disruptive technologies and their impact on journalism and communication force us to assume challenges in learning new techniques for data and information processing. Interdisciplinary knowledge is evident in the teaching of new professional profiles. Data journalism is an example of this, so the immersion into a data culture must be preceded by awareness in the learning of news applications, algorithms or the treatment of Big Data, elements that configure new paradigms among journalists of the media on the Internet. With the revision of texts, direct observation of selected applications and case study, some conclusions are established that contain a growing demand in the knowledge of new techniques. The results show the use of technological resources and the proposal of changes in the curricula of the communication faculties.

A Schlumberger resistivity record was made over an area of 50 hectares. A new field of processes based on the analytical signal response of the resistivity data was tested in the presence of disturbed phosphate deposits. Geology models were successively obtained from a peak model of the 2D resistivity data. The optimization of the imaging process was based on the optimization of surface tools. The descending analytical extension of the modeled surface over a depth of 30 meters was used for optimization of the modeling. The analytical processes found were consistently useful. The optimization of the phosphate reserve was improved and better constructed.

Nowadays spectrometers are useful in many applications such as bio-medical technology among other industrial fields. State of the art low-cost spectrometers are usually equipped with linear photoelectric array detectors (line detectors). This thesis covers part of the software development for a low-cost multichannel spectrometer using a matrix detector instead of a linear array detector. The image acquisition including an automatic integration time optimizer was implemented. Furthermore, algorithms for data extraction and calibration were developed. Finally, the multi-channel-system with the new software was compared with a high-resolution spectrometer and the results were discussed.

Parallel parking, in general, is a moderate difficulty maneuver. Moreover, for inexperienced drivers, it can be a stressful situation that can lead to errors such as stay far from the sidewalk or damage another vehicle resulting in traffic tickets that range from simple parking violation to crash-related violations. In this work, we propose a computationally effective approach to perform a collisionfree parallel parking. The method will calculate the minimum parking space needed and then the efficient path for the parallel parking. This method is computationally inexpensive in comparison with the current state of the art. Moreover, it could be used by any car because the parameters needed to perform all computations are taken from the specifications of real cars. Preliminary results of this work were summarized in [1] that was presented at the 15th International IEEE Conference on Intell...

The investigation examines the culture, politics, and image of political parties in the extraordinary electoral process for Congress, held in January of this year in Peru; from a political communication perspective. The objective is to demonstrate the level of articulation of the factors that build a democratic society in an electoral process, the relations between culture and politics have a long history, however, the levels of articulation in political language have their expression in the image they project to society, that being the fundamental reason for the article. The applied descriptive methodology combines techniques for analyzing image observation formats with interviews, generating qualitative and quantitative results. The conclusions show a disarticulation of concomitant elements in the consolidation of the democratic political order, the perception of a mono-culture aimed a...

It is known that 33% of traffic accidents worldwide are caused by drunk driving or drowsiness [1] [2], so a drowsiness level detection system that integrates image processing was developed with the use of Raspberry Pi3 with the OpenCV library; and sensors such as MQ-3 that measures the percentage of alcohol and the S9 sensor that measures the heart rate. In addition, it has an alert system and as an interface for the visualization of the data measured by the sensors a touch screen. With the image processing technique, facial expressions are analyzed, while physiological behaviors such as heart rate and alcohol percentage are measured with the sensors. In image test training you get an accuracy of x in a response time of x seconds. On the other hand, the evaluation of the operation of the sensors in 90% effective. So the method developed is effective and feasible.

Accurate determination of plant water status is mandatory to optimize irrigation scheduling and thus maximize yield. Infrared thermography (IRT) can be used as a proxy for detecting stomatal closure as a measure of plant water stress. In this study, an open-source software (Thermal Image Processor (TIPCIP)) that includes image processing techniques such as thermal-visible image segmentation and morphological operations was developed to estimate the crop water stress index (CWSI) in potato crops. Results were compared to the CWSI derived from thermocouples where a high correlation was found ( = 0.84). To evaluate the effectiveness of the software, two experiments were implemented. TIPCIP-based canopy temperature was used to estimate CWSI throughout the growing season, in a humid environment. Two treatments with different irrigation timings were established based on CWSI thresholds: 0.4 (T...

Denoising diffusion probabilistic models (DDPMs) have demonstrated significant potential in addressing complex image processing challenges. This paper explores the application of DDPMs in three different areas: reconstruction of remote sensing imagery affected by cloud cover, reconstruction of facial images with occluded areas, and segmentation of bodies of water from remote sensing imagery. Inpainting involves filling in missing regions in images, while DDPMs act as data generators capable of synthesizing information that alings coherently with the context of the original data. Inspired by the inpainting technique, the RePaint approach was adapted and applied to reconstruction tasks. The WaterSegDiff approach, which uses a diffusion model as a backbone, was employed for the segmentation task. To illustrate the model’s behavior and provide examples of the tasks, experiments were carrie...

The company under study aimed to reduce the scrap rates of each process of flexible packaging manufacturing, originated as a result of poor procedures, returned products, and observed spools and/or bales. A reduction in claims was also expected as a result of the improvement in the quality of the finished product. The reduction of scrap in each process of the plastics división led to a reduction in reprocessing and costs. This, in turn, had a positive impact on the company’s income as the provision of high quality products resulted in customer loyalty. Furthermore, processes in the areas of extrusion, printing, cutting, laminating and sealing were made more efficient. The standardization of procedures and processes improved their execution time, creating a more positive image for customers and competitors.

The objective of this work has been to analyze and simulate the interactions of atmospheric and hydrological processes using the WRF Model (Weather Research and Forecasting) in Peru for the year 2014. SENAMHI records precipitation data through a meteorological network found distributed in almost all the Peruvian territory. Due to precipitation has a high spatial variability and to the scarcity of rain gauges, the use of TRMM images was used to estimate precipitation and the WRF atmospheric model to analyze the interactions of atmospheric and hydrological processes during different periods and considering the cumulus parameterizations (Kain-Fritsch scheme, KF) and microphysics (Thompson scheme). Thirty- six images of accumulated monthly precipitation over Peru were processed using the simulation of the atmospheric model WRF (two cases) and the TRMM. Twelve meteorological stations distribu...

A Virtual Lab to experiment on controlled fusion of two digital images has been developed. The resulting image has user pre-defined percentages of each contributing image. With the aim on improving the quality of the resulting image in the fusion, the Virtual Lab has been enabled with the option of selecting a color to be ignored during the fusion process, in this way this color is not fussioned. Successful experiments have been executed fusing three images using the same algorithm.
