In this paper, we present a study about the process of convergency and divergency in the dialect contact. The pluralization of haber is very widespread in the Spanish of the Dominican Republic, but it is almost non-existent in Madrid. The analysis of these varieties is useful in order to observe and explain the process of international dialect contact. The importance of the study of non-variation within the linguistic of migration is point out. The results of the research highlight two main features: a) Madrilenian variety prestige does not influence some linguistic variables among Dominicans in Madrid; b) the perception and frequency of the variable impacts the process of convergence and divergence of the speakers.

Objective: To identify the gaps in pediatric research regarding the origin of financing, the studies conducted without the ethical approval of the national regulatory body, the research topics concerning healthcare needs, and the study type. Materials and methods: A descriptive and observational study based on secondary sources of information was conducted to identify pediatric research projects developed in the Dominican Republic from 2005 to 2018. Such projects included a population between 0 and 17 years of age, regardless of the sponsor, institution in charge of the research and country region. In the context of the virtualization of university education due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we conducted a study to establish the determinants of the intention to use the virtual classroom, following a theoretical model based on the Technology Acceptance Model modified by Park (2009) and including the factors Attitude, Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease, Virtual Self-Efficacy, Subjective Norm and Accessibility of the system. The sample consisted of 1260 self-selected students from 13 Dominican universities. To check the validity and reliability of the measurement instrument, we performed a Confirmatory Factor Analysis, which determined that the System Accessibility factor had to be eliminated because it was based on a single item that did not have discriminatory validity. En esta investigación, se presenta un estudio sobre los procesos de convergencia y divergencia en el contacto dialectal. La pluralización de haber está muy extendida en el español de la República Dominicana, pero es casi inexistente en el de Madrid. El análisis de estas variedades es útil para observar y explicar los procesos del contacto dialectal internacional. Se señala la importancia del estudio de la invariación dentro de la lingüística de la migración. Los resultados de esta investigación resaltan dos características principales: a) el prestigio de la variedad madrileña no influye en algunas variables lingüísticas entre los dominicanos en Madrid; b) la percepción y la frecuencia de la variable influyen en el proceso de convergencia y divergencia de los hablantes.

The Yaque Norte is one of the most important rivers in the Dominican Republic, it is used for consumption purposes, reserve dams, hydroelectric plants, irrigation and others; however, the evidence shows that many of the domestic and industrial effluents are discharged directly into its waters, without prior treatment. In the present work, a physicochemical and microbiological evaluation of surface waters in the upper, middle and lower basin of the Yaque del Norte River is carried out, using the Standard Methods for water analysis. The results show that there are no significant differences in the physicochemical parameters: pH, salinity, conductivity, turbidity, total solids and hardness; however, these parameters show alterations along the river. Some aggressive behaviors of adolescents in schools became a particularly important problem in Latin American and Caribbean region. Specifically, in the Dominican Republic studies report of prevalence from 21.8 to 33.6 %. The aim of this research is to study if some variables from positive psychology such as self-concept, dispositional hope, entrepreneurial attitudes, and values can act as protective factors for such violent behaviors. The main objective of this study is to assess the relevance of the competency-based approach in teaching practices within technical and vocational education in the Dominican Republic. The focus is on two institutions: the Instituto Técnico Superior Comunitario (ITSC) and the Instituto Nacional de Formación Técnico Profesional (Infotep). The study participants included both students and teaching staff from these institutions. The findings reveal that both ITSC and Infotep are highly regarded across the measured indicators, particularly in the category of pedagogical aspects.

This research is a case study that presents the systematization of an educational experience in the Dominican Republic focused on the development of collective memory and social justice. This systematization represents a teaching strategy that promotes intergenerational dialogue on the experiences of a generation that lived through the historical and sociocultural context of Fulgencio Batista’s dictatorship, and young people who have learned about it through readings from the school curriculum and exposure to the mass media. The significance of the strategy lies in the identification and examination of concepts developed from a historical-cultural perspective linking education and human development. Male sex workers (MSW) in the Dominican Republic (DR) have multiple sexual partners, including personal and client-relationships, and are disproportionately affected by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). We examined the prevalence of condomless anal and/or vaginal intercourse (CI) among MSW in the DR as a function of social network factors. Self-report surveys and social network interviews were administered to MSW recruited through venue-based sampling (N = 220). A generalized linear model was used to complete a Poisson Regression model and identify variables significantly associated with the outcome of interest.
