Imaginary on the territorial ordering, technical, economic, social and administrative limitations; as well as the positive things are scrutinized in order to contribute elements for the debate on the plans of the territorial ordering. The political-administrative division is the one that presents the greatest difficulties, giving as a result differences that substantially modify the territories.

The capacity of state agencies varies greatly among Latin American states, but this significant variation remains largely understudied in political science. The few studies that do analyze this phenomenon primarily concentrate on domestic causes as explanations for the variation. This article focuses on another influence on agency capacities that contributes to understand this uneven capacity of the state in the region: international determinants, and proposes two mechanisms that link external causes to enhancement of agency capacities in developing states: a) capacity by external challenges and b) capacity by external linkages. The operation of these mechanisms is illustrated through an analysis of state agencies in Colombia and Peru.

This research aims to analyse the indirect effect of pluralistic attitudes and political distrust on the relationship between relative deprivation and populist attitudes. We conducted a survey on a sample of 3,800 adults from Chile, Colombia, and Peru and performed a mediation analysis using structural equation modelling. The findings showed that political distrust and pluralism have positive and statistically significant indirect effects on the relation between relative deprivation and populist attitudes in these three countries. These findings suggest that perceptions of inequality may contribute to increased political distrust and be associated with pluralistic demands to listen to those perceived as marginalised from power, which ultimately predicts populist attitudes. The study posits that this is a model that may explain the inclusive populism that is often prevalent in Latin Ameri...

Purpose: This study aims to identify informal institutions for bottom-of-the-pyramid (BoP) business models in the agricultural sector through the case study of banana growers’ cooperatives. Design/methodology/approach: A case study of six banana cooperatives from Colombia was conducted. The research followed a mixed design, using both qualitative and quantitative data and the application of structural equations. Findings: This study shows that social capital, networking and alliances are essential in BoP businesses. Originality/value: Authors defined a model of informal institutional factors for the generation of economic and social value in inclusive business, using the new institutional theory and the conceptual development of BoP in agri-business.

This study identifies the chemical compounds present in the essential oils of five species of frailejones and evaluates their biological activity against various microorganisms. The essential oils from the fresh leaves of Espeletia argentea, Espeletia barclayana, Espeletia killipii, Espeletia summapacis, and Espeletiopsis corymbosa were extracted through hydrodistillation. The chemical composition of the essential oils was determined using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The essential oils of some species were tested against fungi (Fusarium sp., Chaetomium sp., Botrytis sp., Penicillium sp., Alternaria sp.) and the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, as well as the yeast Candida sp., using the agar diffusion method. The major compounds identified in the essential oils were α-pinene, β-pinene, sabinene, p-cymene, limonene, and α- and β-phellandrene. Additionally, ...

The Neotropical free-living freshwater cyclopoid copepod Mesocyclops paranaensis Dussart & Frutos, 1986 was found in a small temporal pond in La Guajira, northern Colombia. Hitherto, it has been reported from Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil. This is the first record of this species in Colombia, its northernmost finding in South America, and the fourth locality in which this species has been recorded from. Mesocyclops paranaensis can be distinguished from its closest congeners by a unique combination of the characters of the female, including: 1) leg 4 intercoxal sclerite with two large, acute projections; 2) P3, P4 intercoxal sclerite caudal surface lightly pilose; 3) seminal receptacle with narrow lateral arms and weakly convex anterior margin; 4) second antennary endopodite with seven setae, and insertion of antennary exopodal seta with adjacent spinules; 5)frontal surface of P1 ba...

Three species of brackish waters microcrustaceans are herein recorded; they belong to the cyclopoid copepod genus Halicyclops and were collected from a coastal system in northern Colombia: H. exiguus Kiefer, 1934, H. venezuelaensis Lindberg, 1954, and H. hurlberti Rocha, 1991. The former has intraspecific variations that deserve further study. The finding of the latter species, previously known from the Eastern Tropical Pacific, represents a new record for Colombia and the Caribbean Sea Basin in the Northwestern Tropical Atlantic. With the finding of H. hurlberti the number of species of Halicyclops known from the Neotropical region and Colombia increases to 20 and 5, respectively. The regional diversity of the genus is probably underestimated. A key to species of the genus belonging to group “B” sensu Rocha (1991) is also provided.

A five-year content analysis of 300 news articles from the newspapers El País and El Mundo examines how Latin Americans are positioned within media narratives. Additionally, through a focus group, these frames are compared with the perceptions held by some Spanish citizens. According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), there are 1,554,900 Latin Americanslegally residing in Spain, primarily from Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Venezuela. Although newspapers such as El País and El Mundo acknowledge their presence, there remains a notable lack of information, representation, and in-depth coverage regarding this immigrant population.
