This research analyzes rhythm in fiction films based on the notion of rhythm in the arts of philosopher Susanne Langer and her theory of symbolism. Unlike previous studies on rhythm in film, conducted from mathematical perspectives with metrics of time, proportions and frequencies of montage shots, this study aims to demonstrate that the phenomenon of rhythm in film can also be analyzed from the philosophy of art, in this case, from the symbolism of Langer. In this regard, she considers that rhythm in the arts is recreated in the relationship of the tensions of a work to promote the symbolism of feelings as a whole. The results show that there are up to four recurrent forms of relationships when representing tension scenes (or dramatic tension) and that these successive relationships of tensions are represented by the filmmaker in a conscious and reflexive way until the significance of f...

This document analyzes the concept of human development from the perspective of the capabilities proposed by the American philosopher Martha Nussbaum. Be part of the need to take a new  perspective based on the person as an end in itself and an alternative to the perspective based on quantitative indicators. Thus, analyzing the 10th human development capabilities considering their respective effective end anthropological framework which support them. Taking a stand on the perspective criticism and concluding with a reflection on education as capabilities key.

“Matrixes and Frames: Two Figures of Norm Functioning in the Work of Judith Butler”. The concepts of “intelligibility matrix” and “frame”, each corresponding to different periods in the thought of the feminist philosopher Judith Butler, seem to converge in so many aspects that one is tempted to hold that they may be used indistinctly. Nevertheless, the problem this paper deals with is the possible uniqueness the usage of the latter concept involves, thus pointing to the differences between both concepts. I aim to solve the problem by studying the main sources that Butler herself uses in order to formulate the concept of frame, and by putting in evidence that which is gained by the use of that notion. I also aim to show more clearly the difference between the two concepts by appealing to their functions in the critique of speciffical cultural phenomenon: pornography as...

“The Idea of Change in Simone Weil’s Early Philosophy”. Given that Simone Weil’s oeuvre is characterized by profound reflections on time, which she consistently regarded as the ontological and cognitive instance through which the feeling of human reality acquires meaning, this paper seeks to elucidate the concept of change, which plays a central role in her early philosophy and, in my view, sheds light on the temporal categories of her later work. To achieve this, I examine the dual epistemological condition of human perception posited by Weil in several key texts from her early period –namely, the change present in all phenomena perceived in time and space, and the immobility of the object of thought–. Additionally, I explore the implications of this concept for human understanding of the world.

Wendy Brown alerts us of the advance of homo oeconomicus over homo politicus. The daily practices of individuals are governed and shaped by practices that once belonged to the market. The progress of the neoliberal way of life is beginning to conquer the most recondite scenarios of private life. The American philosopher affirms that governance is a form of dissolution of liberal democracies. Governance disseminates an epistemology, an ontology and a set of depoliticizing practices. For its part, neoliberal reason makes use of techniques that are applied for the immediate purpose of solving problems that prevent the optimal functioning of the neoliberal market while volatility dominates human life. The aim of this paper is to analyze Wendy Brown’s theoretical proposal in the described scenario.

In this article, the author wishes to present Susan Haack’s epistemological proposal that aims to locate it in the middle between foundationalism and coherentism. The foundationalism asserts the existence of fundamental core beliefs. Instead coherentism believes consistency is enough to justifybeliefs. Haack sees insufficient both proposals and presents a new model to save the best of the other two: the foundherentism. The author explains that this proposal is directed towards two objectives: the problem of the justification of our beliefs and the problem of truth. Since the proposal itself is interesting, but it’s more interesting to see this new epistemology makes by a woman philosopher, with new visions and new perspectives as her contribution.

The purpose of this paper is to stand out the qualities of a Catholic intellectual who came to embrace the faith after a long journey of relentless pursuit of truth, which looked with reverence and devoted to their service. Edith’s personality, her spirit deliver, coherence and responsibility, is the exact example for all contemporary Christian intellectual sincerely seeking the truth, not only by the natural use of reason, but also of the light coming from above Christian faith. Her testimony of wisdom, faith, courage and commitment, church transcends boundaries, radiating conscientiously seeking Truth, Beauty, Justice and Happiness.

The profound vital and intellectual unity of Edith Stein’s philosophical itinerary begins with a concept that permeates in her activity since the be ginning: philosophy understood as a rigorous science; it is then articulated around a theory of knowledge established during her phenomenological period and presupposed in her dialogue with the classical tradition; finally, it crystallizes in an anthropological ontology that had been the primary object of her philosophical vocation and that was performed between the purely phenomenological period and the encounter with the philosophia perennis. The aim of this article is to offer a summary introduction to his life and intellectual development by reviewing her work within the framework of the main milestones of her personal history.
