In this paper we analyze the information structure of predicate doubling in Rioplatense Spanish (e.g., Leer, leyó ‘as for reading, she/he read’). We propose that in this construction the dislocated predicate functions as a contrastive topic in the sense of Büring (2003), that is, it evokes a set of alternative questions with which it contrasts. We argue that this characterization explains the “continuation effect” that predicate doubling exhibits, i.e., the fact that a predicate doubling sentence suggests a potential continuation that involves another predicate. Moreover, we show that this analysis correctly predicts the distribution of predicate doubling in embedding contexts.

Penile fracture is an underreported surgical emergency. It usually occurs as a single rupture of the tunica albuginea in one of two corpora cavernosa; a rupture of both masses is an uncommon finding. We report a case of a young male who presented to the emergency department two hours after sustaining penile trauma. Prompt surgical exploration was performed four hours post-injury. He was found to have one fracture on each corpora cavernosa, without urethral injury, which were repaired successfully. The patient had a favorable recovery and was discharged on the third postoperative day without complications. The aim of this report is to highlight the importance of complete degloving of the penile shaft for a meticulous search during surgery to avoid missed injuries. This approach will ensure a successful outcome avoiding physical and psychological disabilities.

The Peru, develops from about 20 years ago macroeco-nomic policy of opening up to international capital, the export of primary products and the promotion of goods subject to a production process that will generate an exportable and competitive value added in the world market. In this context, is a “state policy” subscription “international agreements” that allow us to complement our macroeconomic policies and agree with other countries, and the study, assessment and resolution of their tax effects, in the search for legal certainty to foreign investment and competitiveness of our value-added production, looking at the world as a target. This work analyzes and explains the causes of interna-tional juridical double taxation, which originated in their tax effects corrective established in CDI. This article analyzes the scope of the non-discrimination rule contained in Double Taxation Avoidance Treaties, especially those signed by Argentina. This document considers the OECD and the ILADT Models, which contain provisions designed to ensure that Contracting States do not give any preferential treatment in taxing its own residents or citizens as opposed to the treatment granted to non-residents. Additionally, it analyzes the recent jurisprudence in the Argentine Courts.

When an immovable property has been registered twice in the name of different people, they end up taking the case to a civil judge who requests that the property right that each one alleges corresponds to them be protected by the best property right or claim. This article criticizes the fact that these cases are resolved with registration principles, such as preference, opposability, and public faith in registration, which collapse by pulverizing the registration itself at the beginning of the real folio. In these circumstances, first of all, it must be verified if any of the contenders has consummated the acquisitive prescription. In the absence of this, it is necessary to certify the titles from which the disputed rights derive to apply the prior tempore potior iure principle in order to protect the contender who...

The Tax Court has repeatedly confirmed that antidumping duties are not part of the cost of acquiring imported artifacts. However, Supreme Decree 006-2003-PCM indicates that these rights have the status of a fine towards the importer. The disparity of the topic is clear. In this article, the author questions the Supreme Decree and focuses on assessing if the antidumping duties are a punishable conduct. In order to do this, the author explains the concept of dumping and takes as reference both legislation and legal doctrine on the subject. It is argued that, if there is no punishable conduct, antidumping duties cannot be classified as fines or penalties. In addition, it is proposed that these, being compensatory duties paid on importation, must belong to the cost of acquiring the product in order not to establish a double tax penalty.

Objective: To use both kidneys of an elderly donor in the same receptor and remark the importance of kidney histology as selector method. Materials and Methods: We evaluate the selection and surveillance of 11 patients who received double kidney of cadaver elderly donors. The ten donors’ mean serum creatinine was 1,3 mg/dL, and the mean age was 63 years old (range 56 to 73 years), the receptor’s mean age 53 years. Both kidneys were examined by frozen wedge biopsy. Quantification of damaged tissue was based on defined methodology. Kidneys with moderate microscopic lesions (score 4 to 6/12) were selected for double kidney transplantation. These were implanted extraperitoneally into each iliac fossa with both separate iliac external vessels and bladder-ureters anastomosis. Steroids and mycophenolat-mophetil represented the first line immunosupresor scheme. Results: None of the receptors...

This article will analyze the theme of the double in three Peruvian narrators of the Generation of 50: Guillermo Bellido Yábar, Rubén Sueldo Guevara, and Felipe Buendía. In this generation, a fantastic aspect developed within the narrative, which was almost ignored by critics until the beginning of this century. One of the recurring topics within this aspect was the theme of the double, which represents the conflict between the concepts of identity and alterity, which can be linked to the social changes that took place in that decade. Guillermo Bellido Yábar, Rubén Sueldo Guevara and Felipe Buendía are little known authors of this generation and had a short narrative production that was published basically in newspapers and magazines, in which the theme of double was treated in a particular way to address the problem of identity. The stories of these authors are characterized by in...

Double pylorus and gastroduodenal fistula are rare conditions and can be either congenital or acquired. We report a case of a 58-year-old man with epigastric pain and dyspepsia in which the upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed an acquired double pylorus, probably caused by a gastric ulcer.
