Tilapia is a freshwater fish native to Africa that has many characteristics that make it an excellent fish for aquaculture, but it is also considered one of the most dangerous invasive exotic species in the world due to its adaptability and reproductive potential. This essay analyzes the dilemma between the benefits of these fish as an alternative to contribute to agrifood security and the threat it poses to Ecuador's aquatic biodiversity. The absence of official information makes it necessary to investigate the effect of the invasions by tilapia in the rivers, lagoons and estuaries colonized by this species. Video games have been created on political and social issues since the beginning of this medium. In recent years, many computer developers are creating and launching games quickly in response to current events. These games are known as “newsgames”. Increasingly the number of Internet users increases using the network to consume news. Newsgames could become an important part of how people understand current events and could be an important and expressive genre of video games. Digital journalism is making the media look for new ways to tell news and interact with their audience. A journalist should use Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and implement new journalistic formats. In Ecuador this process takes time to boot although some media are putting these formats into practice as is the case of newsgames. Our work studies the newsgames that are being produced in Ecuador.

La investigación tiene como objetivo utilizar los residuos orgánicos, residuos vegetales para la producción de biol y su aplicación en diferentes dosis en el cultivo de rábano Raphanus savitus. Para ello, se realizó la preparación de tres tipos de bioles utilizando como materia base, el estiércol de vacuno, de cobayo, gallinaza y otros materiales como la leche, miel de caña, alfalfa y levadura. Posterior a este proceso se diseñó el trazado de 36 parcelas en las cuales se sembraron 100 plantas por parcela, en las cuales se aplicó tres tratamientos de cada biol. Finalmente, se llegó a concluir que los bioles sí tienen incidencia en el crecimiento, peso y tamaño del rábano.

The official statistical records on suicide are not reliable due to an under reporring of suicide cases. Considering that the true suicide count is the sum of the officia/ record plus the obscure cipher, an attempt was made to estimare the latter using a simple proporcional imputation formula. The official statistical records were re-analysed under the following racional: the category of violent death caused by acccident or intention, but where it could not be established for cerrain, served as a reservoir that contained the obscure cipher. Using this indirect technique, it was possible to determine that the percentage mean of the obscure suicide cipher (1970-1974) is lower than the showed in the literature.

From 1990 to 2000, Ecuadorian indigenous peoples were the protagonists of a social and political movement that managed to participate in the forefront of the struggle for power. For the first time, thousands of community members forced the authorities to recognize them and negotiate directly with them; at the climax one of its leaders was incorporated into the top of the government. The author exposes the background, rebellion describes it as indigenous, discusses its cultural characteristics, raises the challenges that remain pending to achieve an inclusive society, perhaps the most important challenge faced by Latin American societies with a significant indigenous population and history.

In the last two decades, Ecuador has been exposed to a series of economic and political problems that have affected democratic governance, the full observance of human rights and the possibility of building effective, legitimate and representative institutions, under a framework conducive to the social and economic development of its inhabitants. In broad terms, these problems have cast doubt on the immediate future regarding the constitution of an effective rule of law that expresses respect for the rules of the democratic game, by the different actors of civil society and government authorities.

Ecuador TV, launched in 2007, was the first public television channel in the history of Ecuador. As time went by, it was setting up as Rafael Correa’s spokesperson until the end of his term of office in 2017. Correa took several measures in order to ensure the control of news media and favor his staying in power. Following this strategy, he increased the number of state-owned and confiscated media outlets, although Ecuador TV became the most determining due to its geographical scope and audience. La presente tesis busca analizar las causas que llevaron al Perú y Ecuador a una campaña militar en 1941, a fin de identificar las consecuencias de la misma y dar a conocer la importancia de Piura antes y durante el desarrollo del enfrentamiento entre las dos naciones. Este estudio se remonta al siglo XIX (a las postrimerías del periodo colonial) con la finalidad de analizar las distintas Reales Cédulas que modificaron los límites fronterizos de las futuras naciones beligerantes, causa principal para el desarrollo del enfrentamiento en los años posteriores de su vida republicana. Posteriormente, se explicará el desarrollo del conflicto armado, mencionando la importancia de la ciudad norteña en mención, así como de la participación de la ciudadanía piurana para describir las consecuencias territoriales y políticas que tuvieron que hacer frente ambos países.

Since the studies of Alfredo Torero, Ecuadorian-Colombian Quechua is often considered to come from a variety that was formerly spoken on the central coast of Peru and introduced into Ecuador through maritime trade long before the formation of the Inca empire. Based on a dialectal comparison and an examination of historical sources, we refute this thesis and show that Northern Quechua is the product of a strong influence of Cuzco Quechua on the speech of the North Peruvian settlers that were brought by the Incas into Ecuador. Finally, this case study leads us to question the genetic classification of Quechua dialects proposed by Torero.

More than a year ago, Ecuador suffered a 7.8 Mw earthquake that was devastating, the automatic response was to run to the affected areas and rebuild. Meche’s House is an alternative: the crisis as an opportunity to experiment and consolidate popular construction systems based on an endogenous and holistic approach. This study evaluates two case studies and their contrasting methodologies in their process of selecting beneficiaries for post-disaster reconstruction: Casa Lista of Mutualista Pichincha and La Casa de Meche, differentiating both cases from analyzing their different approaches: the automatic one, non-reflective and product-based, the other analytical and process-based. In Ecuador, there is a high prevalence and incidence of different oral pathologies, this scenario is similar in several countries in the region. Oral diseases constitute a Public Health issue, since they involve a high investment in their management and control. Thus, an emphasis in preventive activities has been placed to improve the impact of oral diseases. Several measures have been taken by the Ecuadorian government to reduce the incidence of dental caries, including massive prevention programmes. This article identifies homogeneous precipitation regions in Ecuador and their relationship to the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), using monthly records from 215 rain stations for the 1968–2014 period. A k-means clustering analysis was used to divide the study area into k regions based on monthly and annual precipitation variables and geographic location (latitude, longitude, and altitude). The robustness of each cluster was evaluated using the “silhouette” coefficient. The groupings were then validated using the regional vector method (RVM).
