Sumario:The intention of the present investigation was to determine the relation that exists between the abilities and levels of the phonological conscience and the understanding of initial reading. For effect of this investigation the corelational descriptive method has been used. The population of this investigation was conformed by 45 children and children of 5, 6, 7 years and 11 months of age that attended the first degree of primary of an Educative Institution of the Callao. The type of sampling has been non probabilistic available. The phonological conscience was measured with the Test of Evaluation of the Phonologic Knowledge (PECO) of Ramos S. (2006) and the understanding of initial reading was measured with the test of understanding of initial reading of Thorne C. (1991). A high degree of association between the phonological conscience and the understanding of initial reading in the global pentanes as in the levels (syllabic and phonemic) and in the abilities except in tasks of syllabic addition as much was.
