Resultados: La prevalencia de recesión gingival según la clasificación de Cairo fue de 43,5% RT1, el 35,9% RT2 y 20,3% RT3. En cuanto al grosor gingival se obtuvo un 59,5% de tipo gruesa y 40,5% de tipo delgada. El ancho de la encía queratinizada fue 2,47 ± 1,05 mm. Se obtuvo asociación estadísticamente significativa entre la recesión gingival RT1, grosor gingival grueso y ancho de encía queratinizada con el grupo etario adulto (Prueba de Chi-cuadrado; p<0.001). Finalmente, se obtuvo una correlación media inversamente proporcional entre el grosor gingival y las recesiones gingivales (Rho de Spearman de -0,307). Conclusiones: Se encontró una correlación media inversamente proporcional entre grosor gingival y las recesiones gingivales en pacientes del grupo etario adulto que acuden a un centro odontológico privado.

Materials and method: An observational, cross-sectional, prospective, and analytical study was carried out; whose sample was made up of 153 patients; in whom, the type of gingival recession according to Cairo, the width of keratinized gingiva and gingival thickness were evaluated. Results: The prevalence of gingival recession according to the Cairo classification was 43.5% RT1, 35.9% RT2 and 20.3% RT3. Regarding gingival thickness, 59.5% were thick and 40.5% were thin. The width of the keratinized gingiva was 2.47 ± 1.05 mm. A statistically significant association was obtained between RT1 gingival recession, thick gingival thickness and width of keratinized gingiva with the adult age group (Chi-square test; p<0.001). Finally, an inversely proportional average correlation was obtained between gingival thickness and gingival recessions (Spearman's Rho of -0.307).
