The translation of dialects is one of the most difficult challenges in literary translation, because the translator faces a text that must be adapted to the culture of the target language, so that the translation could be understood by the target language’s community. One of the options for facing a dialectally marked text is to use an existing-dialect with similar connotations. Another option is to translate to a standard language. In this particular case, we are going to analyze the stories “Le vieux” and “Aux champs”, written by the french author Guy de Maupassant. The most special characteristic of these stories is that both have many local markers and colors because the author wanted to create this in the stories. That is the most important reason why it becomes a big challenge for the translator. In addition, a proposed translation will be set up for solving the encountered problems during the translation process.
