RESULTADOS: El estudio incluyó un total de 320 gestantes, de las cuales el 25,3% tenían entre 21 y 30 años, el 28,8% presentaban una edad gestacional entre 33 y 37 semanas, y el 19,7% eran nulíparas que desarrollaron preeclampsia severa. Además, el 22,5% de las pacientes presentaban obesidad pregestacional, con una significancia estadística de p = 0,000 y un odds ratio (OR) de 0,195. En cuanto al aumento de peso excesivo durante el embarazo, el 26,3% de las pacientes en el grupo de casos lo presentaron, con un p = 0,000 y un OR de 0,029. CONCLUSIÓN: La obesidad pregestacional y el aumento excesivo de peso se asocian con un mayor riesgo de desarrollar preeclampsia severa.

MATERIAL AND METHOD: An observational case-control study was conducted, in which healthy pregnant women and women with severe preeclampsia were selected by simple random sampling at the Hospital de Apoyo II-2 Sullana, Piura. Information on pre-pregnancy weight was collected and body mass index was calculated. RESULTS: The study included a total of 320 pregnant women, of whom 25.3% were between 21 and 30 years old, 28.8% had a gestational age between 33 and 37 weeks, and 19.7% were nulliparous women who developed severe preeclampsia. In addition, 22.5% of the patients were pre-pregnant obese, with a statistical significance of p = 0.000 and an odds ratio (OR) of 0.195. Regarding excessive weight gain during pregnancy, 26.3% of patients in the case group presented it, with a p = 0.000 and an OR of 0.029.
