description El objetivo del presente trabajo de investigación fue identificar Malassezia pachydermatis en Canis familiaris con otitis externa, mediante citología exfoliativa y cultivo. Considerando un porcentaje de aceptación de 90% y un error estimado del 10%, se seleccionaron 90 perros con otitis externa aguda y crónica, y con la autorización de sus tutores como criterios de inclusión. Se utilizó una ficha de recolección de datos para Canis familiaris con otitis externa. En la identificación microscópica mediante tinción Gram, se determinó 83.3% casos positivos a estructuras sugerentes a Malassezia. las cuales se presentaron en mayor frecuencia más de 10 levaduras por campo. El aislamiento en Agar Sabouraud con cloranfenicol, resulto positivo 88.9% a colonias de Malassezia pachydermatis resaltando su uso en diagnóstico. Asimismo, se reporta que la mayoría de caninos que padecen de otitis externa son hembras, adultas y de raza, la mayor parte de participantes de tipo bilateral, con cerumen abundante, marrón y con mal olor, y con signos clínicos en orden de frecuencia: Eritema, descamación, estenosis, hiperplasia e hiperqueratosis. Se realizó análisis estadístico utilizando la prueba de Chi cuadrado, revelando asociación entre raza y la presentación de otitis externa por Malassezia pachydermatis

Considering an acceptance percentage of 90% and an estimated error of 10%, 90 dogs with acute and chronic otitis externa were selected, and with the authorization of their guardians as inclusion criteria. A data collection form was used for Canis familiaris with otitis externa. In microscopic identification using Gram staining, 83.3% positive cases were determined for structures suggestive of Malassezia. which occurred more frequently, more than 10 yeasts per field. Isolation on Sabouraud Agar with chloramphenicol was 88.9% positive for colonies of Malassezia pachydermatis, highlighting its use in diagnosis. Likewise, it is reported that the majority of canines that suffer from external otitis are females, adults and breed, the majority of participants are bilateral, with abundant, brown and bad-smelling earwax, and with clinical signs in order of frequency: Erythema, scaling, stenosis, hyperplasia and hyperkeratosis.
