Se incluyó a 219 historias clínicas maternoperinatales: 73 neonatos macrosómicos (≥4000 g) y 146 neonatos con peso < 4000g, productos de gestantes a término atendidas en el Hospital Regional de Trujillo durante 2005-2015. Se les dividió en dos grupos, considerando el sobrepeso y obesidad pregestacional. Se halló la asociación empleando el Odds ratio con IC y se empleó el test Chi cuadrado para hallar la significancia estadística con un p< 0.05. Resultados: La frecuencia de macrosomía fetal en los pacientes con sobrepeso y obesidad fue de 53% comparada con la un 23% de frecuencia de macrosomía en madres cuyo índice de masa pregestacional fue normal. Resultó con significancia estadística la asociación sobrepeso y obesidad pregestacional con macrosomía fetal, OR= 3.74, IC del 95% IC= [2.06-6.82]. Conclusiones: El sobrepeso y la obesidad se asocian significativamente a la presencia de macrosomía fetal.

Methods: Was conduced a analitic, observational, retrospective, case-control investigation. We searched the medical records, and included 219 newborns: 73 macrosomic newborns (≥ 4000 g) and 146 newborns with birthweigth < 4000g, pregnant women hospitalized in Regional Hospital of Trujillo during 2005-2015. They were divided into two groups. They were divided into two groups, considering prepregnancy overweight and obesity. Association was found using the Odds ratio (OR) with IC and Chi square test to find statistical significance with p < 0.05 was used. Results: The frequency of fetal macrosomia in patients with overweight and obesity was 53 % compared with 23 % frequency of macrosomia mothers whose mass index before pregnancy was normal. It was statistically significant the overweight and obesity before pregnancy with fetal macrosomia association OR = 3.74, 95 % CI = [ 2.06-6.82].
