Se tomó registro de la edad y el sexo; se consultó al padre/apoderado sobre la presencia de algún hábito bucal inadecuado de su hijo y finalmente se procedió a la observación clínica del niño para diagnosticar la presencia y/o tipo de mordida abierta. Se empleó la prueba estadística chi- cuadrado, considerando un nivel de significancia del 5%. Resultados: Al asociar la mordida abierta con los malos hábitos bucales, se encontró asociación significativa (p<0.001). La prevalencia de mordida abierta en los estudiantes fue de 33.33%. Por otro lado, en niños con mordida abierta, el tipo de mordida abierta anterior fue del 62.22%, mientras que el posterior fue de 37.78%. Conclusiones: Se encontró asociación entre mordida abierta y malos hábitos bucales en estudiantes de la I.E. Jorge Basadre Grohman en el año 2024

Method: The present study was observational, cross-sectional and descriptive, developed in 202 students of 8 and 9 years of age of the Jorge Basadre Grohman School in the year 2024. A record was taken of age and sex; the parent/guardian was consulted about the presence of any inadequate oral habits in their child and finally the child was clinically observed to diagnose the presence and/or type of open bite. The chi-square statistical test was used, considering a significance level of 5%. Results: When associating open bite with bad oral habits, a significant association was found (p<0.001). The prevalence of open bite in students was 33.33%. On the other hand, in children with open bite, the anterior open bite type was 62.22%, while the posterior was 37.78%.
