El presente trabajo de investigación tuvo como objetivo principal determinar la asociación entre la manifestación de problemas dermatológicos y la ansiedad por separación en caninos. Se seleccionaron 100 perros que cumplieron con los siguientes criterios de inclusión: pacientes en tratamiento dermatológico hace 1 año y asisten a controles, propietarios que convivan estrechamente con la mascota y que acepten a realizar la encuesta. Se utilizó escalas de tipo conductual: sin ansiedad por separación, ansiedad por separación leve, moderada, marcada y severa (Vergara 2017) y una clasificación hacia los problemas dermatológicos: Grado 1 (G1) presentan solo una característica en la piel: piel enrojecida, piel grasa, piel seca, caspa, rascado, frotamiento, lamido, mordisqueo, mordida. G2, presentan dos características en la piel y G3, con tres o más características en la piel (Robinson 2014). En los resultados, se encontró que el 91% del total de los perros en estudio presentaron ansiedad por separación. El promedio de los perros que presentaron problemas de ansiedad por separación es de 5 años aproximadamente, la raza, el sexo y la edad del perro no es predisponente a que puedan presentar problemas de ansiedad por separación. Se obtuvo que la ansiedad por separación se asocia a los problemas dermatológicos de G1, (p= 0.025) y de G 3 (p=0.045); así también, el tipo de vivienda se asocia a los problemas dermatológicos de G 1 (p= 0.022), sin embargo, no se asocia a los problemas dermatológicos de G 2 y de G 3. Se concluye que la ansiedad por separación es un factor de riesgo, tenerla incrementa el riesgo de presentar problemas dermatológicos, hacen necesario continuar estudiando esta patología, para ayudar a su prevención, diagnóstico y tratamiento, mejorando los niveles de bienestar de nuestros pacientes y fomentando la tenencia responsable |

Behavioral scales were used: no separation anxiety, mild, moderate, marked and severe separation anxiety (Vergara 2017) and a classification of dermatological problems: Grade 1 (G1) present only one skin characteristic: reddened skin, oily skin, dry skin, dandruff, scratching, rubbing, licking, nibbling, biting. G2, have two characteristics on the skin and G3, with three or more characteristics on the skin (Robinson 2014). In the results, it was found that 91% of the total dogs in the study presented separation anxiety. The average number of dogs that presented separation anxiety problems is approximately 5 years old, the breed, sex and age of the dog is not a predisposition to them presenting separation anxiety problems. It was found that separation anxiety is associated with the dermatological problems of G1, (p= 0.025) and G 3 (p=0.045); Likewise, the type of housing is associated with the dermatological problems of G 1 (p= 0.022), however, it is not associated with the dermatological problems of G 2 and G 3.
