This qualitative study, social representations approach, was conducted, with the question “What is the social representation of violence from the perspective of women treated in the Health Center “El Buen Pastor” – Trujillo? The objectives were to characterize the social representation of violence against women, from the perspective of women, likewise analyze and discuss the representations of violence against women from the perspective of the women mentioned above. Based on these research objectives, it got the information and then did the description, interpretation and analysis of data, collected during the research process. The perception of women about violence against women was characterized in three broad categories: a. Anchored to the women at the center of domestic violence, women in this research tries to find a meaning for the abuse (which happen to be “unfamiliar”) and finds in the meaning it has acquired from childhood on abuse and get on the context in which it develops. According to this meaning she confronts element of his representation with a network of categories which comes to the rules, habits, customs, etc. His own person, leads to a cognitive analysis and places classified according to their social and personal experiences. b. Portrayal of violence against women “which focuses on the analysis of the person (woman) and his objectivity about the violence they suffer. Representation and conclude that that focuses primarily on acts that offend, that leaves traces and physical/psychological abuse, shifting responsibility for this violent act exclusively to men. c. The third category was called “representation of the male gender as a center of power and violence”, considering the syntactic and semantic meaning of the four significant elements that focus the man directly responsible for the abuse.
