Sumario: | To establish the prevalence of BMI and risk factors for DM2 in a population of 15 to 17 years of age in an educational center in the city of Trujillo, Peru. Specific: To establish the prevalence of obesity, overweight, family history for DM2, acanthosis nigricans, arterial hypertension (HTA) and sedentarism in children of the Liceo Trujillo educational center. Material and Method: This descriptive, cross-sectional, prospective study was performed in children between 15 and 17 years of age from C.E. Liceo Trujillo. The sample was 218 children of both sexes. Anthropometric measurements were taken to measure BMI, blood pressure to determine HBP, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire for adolescents (IPAQ-A) was applied to determine sedentarism, and a direct survey was conducted to find out about family history of DM2. Results: Of the total sample, 16% had obesity, 32.1% were overweight, 7.3% had a family history of DM2, 1.8% had HTA, and 71.6% had a sedentary lifestyle. We did not evaluate acanthosis nigricans because parents refused to perform physical examination of their children. Conclusions: Risk factors for DM2 are prevalent in boys and girls aged 15 to 17 years, with sedentarism being the most prevalent risk factor |
