Sumario:Maca is a plant that grows above 4000 m.a.s.l. in the central Andes of Peru and is consumed for its nutritional properties and health benefits. Secondary and retrospective study carried out based on the “Metabolómica, aceptabilidad y seguridad alimentaria al consumo de maca (Lepidium meyenii) en varones y mujeres adultas de Cerro de Pasco (4340 msnm) y de Lima (150 msnm)” studied concentration of metabolites of metabolic pathways of carbohydrates and lipids in plasma of adults from the department of Puno after consuming placebo, red maca and black maca for a period of 3 months using metabolomic techniques. The concentrations values of the pre- and post-intake metabolites of each group (placebo, red and black maca) were compared, concentration values also compared between groups. In both metabolic pathways, changes were obtained in some concentrations of the metabolites in the comparisons between initial time(T0) and final time (T3) as well as between treatment groups; however, in most of the comparisons, they were kept in the same concentrations when we control the age and the pretreatment values, and in some cases excluding outliers. In conclusion, there are differences in plasma concentrations in the 3 treatments in some metabolites of both metabolic pathways in inhabitants of Puno.
