El paciente permanece consciente con esta técnica, evitándose la sedación y riesgo de infección relacionados con los dispositivos invasivos. Por ende, es necesario que enfermería tenga los conocimientos y las habilidades necesarias para un correcto inicio y manejo de la ventilación mecánica no invasiva. Objetivo: Identificar los cuidados generales de enfermería en los pacientes con insuficiencia respiratoria aguda sometidos a ventilación mecánica no invasiva en el servicio de emergencia. Material y Método: revisión bibliográfica de artículos con texto completo entre el año 2010 y 2020, los cuales han sido seleccionados y sometidos a una lectura crítica, seleccionándose 33 artículos que fueron encontrados en las bases de datos de Scielo, Cochrane, Dialnet, PubMed. Conclusión: Los cuidados de enfermería deben estar dirigidos a asegurar el éxito de la VMNI con el uso adecuado de técnicas secuenciales correctamente, evaluar la situación basal del paciente, observar la tolerancia del paciente a la terapia y evitar las complicaciones asociadas; así como establecer las medidas preventivas y de corrección que considere necesario para promover la adaptación entre el respirador y paciente. A ello la enfermera cumple un papel importante en el transcurso que el paciente precisa de VMNI para lograr el éxito del tratamiento; también interviene antes y después de la ventilación mecánica no invasiva.

The patient remains conscious with this technique, avoiding sedation and risk of infection related to invasive devices. Therefore, it is necessary for nurses to have the knowledge and skills necessary for a correct initiation and management of non-invasive mechanical ventilation. Objective: To identify general nursing care in patients with acute respiratory failure undergoing non-invasive mechanical ventilation in the emergency service. Material and Method: bibliographic review of articles with full text between 2010 and 2020, which have been selected and subjected to a critical reading, selecting 33 articles that were found in the databases of Scielo, Cochrane, Dialnet, PubMed. Conclusion: Nursing care should be aimed at ensuring the success of NIMV with the proper use of correctly sequential techniques, assessing the patient's baseline situation, observing the patient's tolerance to therapy, and avoiding associated complications; as well as establishing the preventive and corrective measures that it deems necessary to promote adaptation between the respirator and the patient.
