| Sumario: | This paper aims at reflecting on the need to reorient translator training within the evolving landscape of Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration in professional settings. Te role of the human translator, as we know it today, will disappear as routine and repetitive tasks will become automated by AI-driven machine translation, leaving complex text translation and post-editing tasks for the human translator. Therefore, it is imperative to exercise the human skills needed for mediation in cross-linguistic and cross-cultural contexts. Proficiency in translation technology requires higher-order cognitive functions; hence, translator must engage in critical thinking, understand the mechanics of AI models to tailor prompts to translation brief specifics, and acknowledge the potential risks associated with AI in data processing on the internet . Consequently, a training program that emphasizes reflection on utilitarian ethics, critical thinking and functional prompts formulation will favor the integration of AI models in the translator’s training, facilitating their subsequent integration into the professional market. |
