Descripción
Sumario:This article addresses the concepts, models and challenges of the Internationalization of Higher Education, and its interfaces with higher education institutions, proposing reflections that will contribute to intercultural and quality higher education, committed to society. The methodology is qualitative and is based on scientific production, in this century, in books and articles by researchers from different countries when they address internationalization of higher education and perspectives that favor its understanding and the adoption of better practices and processes for its implementation in the university. Throughout the history of higher education, internationalization has expanded its approaches, based on the advances of society and its opportunities. Currently, the concept is comprehensive, including teaching, research, extension and innovation and carrying a set of complementary strategies that favor its implementation in all areas of higher education. These strategies extend beyond cross-border internationalization and include internationalization of the curriculum and internationalization at home. In this century, with the development of technologies, strategies have been expanded and interconnectivity is present in the creation of collaborative networks. Internationalization favors the development of intercultural skills, ensuring greater quality for higher education. The concepts and approaches to the internationalization of higher education are presented in this article and articulated with the perspectives and challenges of higher education, considering the characteristics of a globalized society, with its opportunities and weaknesses.
