The following pages attempt to make up for this oversight and, perhaps, unravel the true sense and meaning of regionalism in the cultural field. With this purpose, the thorny question of the region and regionalism in Peru is analyzed, its repercussion in the national literature in general and in three fundamental novels of the 19th century, in particular.El regionalismo, subestimado por muchos y valorizado en su real dimensión por contadas personas, es aún hoy materia que requiere un esclarecimiento cabal. Reducido a un localismo, ruralismo o paisajismo en unos, enmarcado en lo geográfico y económico para otros, el fenómeno regionalista en el Perú ha sido postergado en lo literario. Las siguientes páginas intentan resarcir ese descuido y, quizás, desentrañar el verdadero sentido y significado del regionalismo en el ámbito cultural.
