Descripción
Sumario:Objectives: Determine the level of anxiety in adolescents of a pre-university institution. Materials and methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study, developed in November 2018. Spielberger's test anxiety scale (IDASE) was used. Results: Participants were 324 adolescents of both sexes with a mean of 17.09 years (SD = 0.847, range: 14, 19). 73.1% (n = 237) constituted by males, 57.7% (n = 187) were 17 years old and remains with ages of 14 to 19 years, 49.7% (n = 161) from private schools and 46.6% (n = 151) of state schools. With respect to the anxiety-state level, 51.5% (n = 167) presented a high level, followed by the medium level. In the anxiety-trait, 58.6% (n = 190) presented the medium level, followed by the high level. Anxiety-state manifested among students from state high school (p = 0.017), while the anxiety-trait manifested among adolescents who decided to study a particular professional career by their own initiative (p = 0.031) and in those who did not live with both parents (p = 0.033). Conclusion: Among pre-university adolescents there are levels of anxiety-state and anxiety-trait. It is recommended to carry out preventive activities that allow the control of the state of anxiety and contribute to its academic purposes.  Keywords: Anxiety; Manifest Anxiety Scale; Adolescent; Peru (Source: MeSH, NLM).
