Sumario:The present scientific research aims to determine the relationship between the development of linguistic competence and written communication in first-cycle students of a private university, 2019. This basic research is of a non- experimental cross-sectional design and it was carried out with a sample made up by 100 students from the first cycle of a private university. The instruments used for data collection were two questionnaires: the first, made up of 12 items to measure linguistic competence, with a reliability coefficient of 0.99; and the second, made up of 15 items to measure the variable written communication, with a reliability coefficient of 0.99. The results obtained in this research allowed to show that there is a direct and significant relationship between linguistic competence and written communication in students of the first cycle of a private university, 2019, since the value of p = 0.000 < 0.05 was obtained.
