The availability of the mentor is essential to foster a solid mentor-resident relationship, in order to achieve the academic and professional success of the future specialist; using not only theoretical-practical methods, but also the use of educational technology that will allow the maximum development of the menteeLa mentoría en cirugía, es al arte de guiar a un futuro cirujano hacia objetivos académicos y profesionales específicos que determinarán probablemente el éxito en su carrera. Esta mentoría requiere una sólida relación mentor-residente y un mentor con ciertas características como: la productividad en investigación, la comprensión de la pedagogía y la aplicación de la tecnología educativa. El mentor en cirugía es el encargado de canalizar adecuadamente las diversas experiencias clínico-quirúrgicas del residente para lograr un aprendizaje significativo; así mismo, la experiencia y la motivación son las principales características de un buen mentor.
