Health research is vital for the advancement of science and development in a country. However, researching with ethics in daily clinical practice is a slow process. Several factors play a critical role at the beginning of any investigation: the workplace, the right time, the resources with which it is counted, the number of study subjects that could be involved and even the socio familiar environment of the researcher. All these factors are directly or indirectly related to ethical problems between the doctor researcher and the patient or research subject; even more in countries like Peru, where the low educational level of the population increases a certain position of power of the doctor. Likewise, the appearance of new areas in Medicine such as palliative care, assisted human reproduction, gene therapy and tissue engineering make this pairing even more complex.

Introduction: The disease called COVID-19 is a pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus (severe acute respiratory syndrome 2). In Peru, patient zero or first case with COVID-19 was detected on March 6 and since then the virus has continued to spread. The national government fights against this disease on several fronts, but the health situation differs greatly from developed countries. Objective: To review the current state of the disease and analyze its possible impact on the Peruvian health system. Methods: A bibliographic search of various studies was carried out since the appearance of the disease (December 2019) in the different databases (PUBMED, MEDLINE, PLOs, SciELO) and in Google Scholar. Results: It was found that the virus is transmitted mainly by the respiratory route; the average incubation period is 14 days; most patients have mild disease or are asymptomatic but 5% of these...

Mentoring in surgery is the art of guiding a future surgeon toward specific academic and professional goals that are likely to determine career success. This mentoring requires a solid mentor-resident relationship and a mentor with certain characteristics such as: research productivity, understanding of pedagogy and the application of educational technology. The mentor in surgery is in charge of properly channeling the resident's various clinical-surgical experiences to achieve meaningful learning; likewise, experience and motivation are the main characteristics of a good mentor. The availability of the mentor is essential to foster a solid mentor-resident relationship, in order to achieve the academic and professional success of the future specialist; using not only theoretical-practical methods, but also the use of educational technology that will allow the maximum development of the m...

Introduction: Hypertrophic scarring in the skin represents a serious global public health problem, as it physically and emotionally affects people who suffer from it. This makes it necessary to investigate new alternatives for its prevention and treatment. The objective of the study was to compare the effect of Averrhoa carambola L. (star fruit) on the skin under an animal model of hypertrophic healing. Methods: Experimental study; 10 male New Zealand breed rabbits were used, between 3 and 4 months old, with an average weight of 3 to 3.5Kg. The creation of hypertrophic scars in the ears of rabbits was induced under the model described by Morris et al. One of the groups received 1 mL of a 10% aqueous solution of the lyophilized star fruit, while the other received 1 mL of triamcinolone acetate; in both groups the application was intralesional and weekly in a month. After the treatment, un...

Cleft lip -with or without cleft palate- is the most frequently reported facial congenital malformation in the world that requires surgery -cheiloplasty- to be corrected. Unfortunately, the hypertrophic scar after cheiloplasty is a common result that negatively affects the patient, their social environment and even the specialists, because to date there is no specific treatment. In order to know the current status of the treatment of this problem, a literature review was conducted since 2000 in the different databases. It was found that the treatment and prevention options are similar: primary closure of the wound without tension, adhesive tape of microporous paper, injection of intralesional corticoid, silicone sheet or gel, flavonoid gel, and laser. It was concluded that the treatment of the hypertrophic scar after cheiloplasty is still unsatisfactory and the research is limited since ...
