The purpose of this study was to identify, describe, and explain the necessary professional competencies that Huánuco economists must develop and possess in a complex post-pandemic scenario. The research was framed within a quantitative approach methodology, using a non-experimental design, based on the observation of the profile of the Huánuco economist in the post-COVID period, of an applied type. The study worked with 203 economists, divided into 102 professionals and 101 business owners, to whom a questionnaire was administered as part of the study's data collection instrument. The most notable results were that the competencies considered very important by economists are critical thinking (56.1%), ethical decision-making (57.7%), data and statistical analysis (40.9%), and communication skills (38.7%). Objective. Economic growth and monetary poverty are very important economic variables for decision-making in public policy since they allow improving the well-being of the inhabitants of a country, for which the research work established the objective of determining the relationship between these two variables for the department of Huánuco in the period 2009 to 2018. Methods. The research approach was quantitative, applied and descriptive-correlational design. The population and sample consisted of the inhabitants of the Department of Huánuco, whose data were extracted from surveys carried out by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) from 2009 to 2018 and the Central Reserve Bank of Peru. In Peru, according to the University Law Nº 30220, the salaries of the teachers of the universities must be homologated with those of judicial magistrates; however, to date this has not yet been fulfilled. However, it is necessary to point out that after more than 20 years of complaints from university professors, in 2005 the process of homologation was initiated, which has allowed an increase in remunerations; however, there are differences between categories: "auxiliary", "associate" and "main full time", taking into account that they perform the same tasks. Objective: This article aims to determine the factors associated with business mortality in the province of Huánuco. Methodology: A quantitative and descriptive approach was adopted to analyze business mortality in the province. The sample was selected through proportional stratified sampling, dividing the population into strata based on economic activity and business size. Simple random sampling was applied in each stratum, resulting in a sample of 157 entrepreneurs. Results: Entrepreneurs in Huánuco perceive a significant economic impact, with over 69% indicating a major impact. The critical importance of effectively managing economic and external factors for business survival is highlighted. Conclusion: The perception of entrepreneurs in Huánuco underscores the critical relevance of efficiently managing economic and external factors to ensure business survival and success.
