The aim of this study was to evaluate diets enriched with vitamin E and organic selenium on the productive performance and meat quality of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The study was carried out in the fish farm «El Ingenio» in Huancayo, Peru with 4200 juvenile trout (164 g of body weight) during 40 days. A basal diet (treatment 1), two levels of vitamin E (25 and 50 ppm) and three levels of organic selenium (0.15, 0.25 and 0.35 ppm) were used. In the study, 600 trout were assigned per each of the seven treatments, using three repetitions per treatment (n=200) in a completely randomized design. Body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, and protein efficiency ratio were evaluated. Besides, in the frozen meat content of vitamin E, selenium and total volatile basic nitrogen, and the oxidation state were determined. Data was processed by the analysis of variance, the Tukey multiple c...

The aim of this study was to enrich guinea pig (Cavia porcellus) meat with omega3 polyunsaturated fatty acids by diets with omega-3 sources. A total of 48 male guinea pigs, 42 day old and 615 g body weight were used. The guinea pigs were randomly assigned to four treatments with three replicates (pens) with four individuals each. The dietary treatments were: 1) Control diet; 2) 1.0% fish oil supplemented diet; 3) 4.0% sacha inchi seeds (Plukenetia volubilis) supplemented diet; and 4) 1.0% fish oil + 4.0% sacha inchi seeds supplemented diet. The experiment lasted 28 days. The meat of guinea pig supplemented with fish oil contained 1.36% large chain omega-3 fatty acids (0.63% eicosapentaenoic acid [EPA] + 0.73% docosahexaenoic acid [DHA]) and those supplemented with the fish oil + sacha inchi had 0.99% large chain omega-3 fatty acids (0.44% EPA + 0.55% DHA). Guinea pigs on the control diet...

The aim of the study was to determine the productive parameters of guinea pigs raised with diets supplemented with fish oil and sacha inchi seeds. Forty eight male guinea pigs of 42 days old were used, with an initial body weight of 615 g. The guinea pigs were randomly assigned to 4 treatments with 3 repetitions (rearing pools) of 4 animals each. Dietary treatments were: T0: Control, T1: diet supplemented with 1.0% fish oil; T2: diet supplemented with 4.0% sacha inchi seed; and T3: diet supplemented with 1.0% fish oil + 4.0% sacha inchi seed. The experimental phase lasted 28 days. Body weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion and carcass yield were evaluated. The average of individual body weight gain ranged between 315 and 353 g per treatment, consumption ranged between 1172 and 1224 g dry matter, feed conversion ranged between 3.53 and 3.73 and carcass yield varied between 69.4 and 71...
