Introduction: Maca is consumed since ancient times as part of the diet. Its ability to reduce the effects of stress and fatigue is mentioned among its medical properties by Peruvian traditional medicine. Recent studies describe that administration of maca reduces glycemia in normoglycemic animals; however mechanisms remain unclear. Objectives: To determine hypoglycemic and antioxidant effects of yellow ecotype maca flour (Lepidium meyenii Walp) in diabetic rats. Design: Experimental. Setting: Biochemistry and Nutrition Research Center, Faculty of Medicine, Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Lima, Peru. Biologic material: Yellow maca flour, male rats. La haplodiploidía es un mecanismo para la determinación del sexo en D. coccus. En especies con haplodiploidía funcional se ha observado el comportamiento diferencial entre los cromosomas H (heterocromáticos) y E (eucromáticos) durante la meiosis. Con el objetivo de evaluar la meiosis en D. coccus, se analizaron cochinillas de la localidad de San Bartolomé – Huarochirí, Lima, Perú en estado de pre pupa y pupa. Se aplicó el método convencional con orceína lacto acética al 2% para la coloración de las células germinales. Se analizó la interfase, meiosis I y meiosis II de las células germinales en machos de D. coccus, observándose el comportamiento diferencial de los cromosomas eucromáticos (E) y heterocromáticos (H), debido a la inactivación física y funcional de estos últimos. Objectives: To determine in serum and erythrocytes the yacon leaves (EAY) aqueous extract hepatoprotective effect in a model of acetaminophen poisoning in rats. Design: Experimental, cross sectional. Institution: Biochemistry and Nutrition Research Center, Faculty of Medicine, Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Lima, Peru. Biological material: Yacon leaves.
