In order to educate outstanding future educators for the country, we have incorporated innovations to our curricular plans stemming from the sciences of Andragology (educating adults) and Gerontology (educating mature adults). At present, Peruvian universities focus on preparing specialized teachers for elementary (children) and high school (adolescents) levels. However, there is a lack of preparing teachers to educate adults and mature adults.

We face a new world society :civilization of knowledge and technology, simbolic culture, free time increment, increase of scholarization, multiculturalization, and apparently, the absence of values that present a body blow to the human being in all his dimensions: afective, ethical social, esthetic and phisical. In the face of great challenges, we must improve our National Development Plan with the use of Educational Planification in order to enhance our Educational System. It engages the mother before giving birth, education of the baby, the child, the adolescent, the adult and the third age, having as the ultimate common denominator: Fundamental Values.

In the "knowledge age", the most important educational activity is the one of "learning". The student ability to "learn" goes along with her/him for life. Thanks to "learning" the human being can increase, develop and perfect knowledge, competencies, skills, and character in order to live a successful and worthy life. We consider a priority, institutionally and personally, to recognize the outstanding contributions of Doctor Emilio Barrantes Revoredo as a posthumous homage. Such a remarkable intellectual, leader and master of masters was our professor and dean of the Education Faculty in San Marcos University (the Oldest University in America and one of the most prestigious) in two terms from 1956 to 1961 and then from 1964 to 1967. As an intellectual he was a true admirer of Peru and Education. He described our country, detailing and highlighting its geographic, historic, cultural and ethnical diversity. As an educator he was a Humanist in the philosophical and artistic ambits. His intellectual output was quite large. In the present era of Knowledge, the use of different Media in Didactics as part of the General Didactics acquires a superior importance. This is due to the high progress of science and technology. The traditional curriculum is extended beyond old edges using the “medial education” as a fundamental new component of general education. Dentro del clima de autoevaluación que vivimos actualmente en nuestra Facultad, nos ha interesado poner énfasis en el elemento más importante del Plan Curricular: el Perfil Profesional. Consideramos de singular trascendencia la necesidad de actualizarlo permanentemente, porque es la brújula que nos indica el “Norte” a seguir, por la necesidad de incorporar constantemente los avances científicos, tecnológicos y humanísticos del mundo actual, en permanente cambio.
